Volkswagen ID.3 Neo Unveiled: Sharper Design, 630km Range, and Physical Buttons!

Volkswagen has officially released the first images of the all-new ID.3 Neo. As the mid-life facelift of the popular ID.3, the new model goes beyond simply adding a "Neo" suffix. It introduces a comprehensive upgrade addressing several pain points of its predecessor, with significant improvements in technology and ergonomics.

Refined Exterior with a Tech Edge

Compared to the current model, the ID.3 Neo adopts a sportier and more dynamic aesthetic.

New Light Signature: It features redesigned full-width LED light bars that deliver a sharper and more modern appearance.

Digital Key: The vehicle supports smartphone or smartwatch access through wireless encryption, similar to a contactless payment transaction. This eliminates the need to fumble for a traditional key fob.

Interior Overhaul: Physical Buttons Are Back!

The most significant update inside the ID.3 Neo is the return of physical buttons. In response to customer feedback about the previous touch-sensitive controls, Volkswagen has made meaningful improvements to the user experience.

Innovision Infotainment: The system now runs the latest operating software, delivering smoother performance and a more intuitive interface.

Enhanced Travel Assist: It includes the latest Level 2 semi-autonomous driving aids for added safety and convenience.

One-Pedal Driving: A new addition that allows the car to decelerate to a complete stop using regenerative braking — a particularly useful feature for navigating Malaysia's heavy traffic conditions.

Performance & Range

The ID.3 Neo will be available in three battery and motor configurations:

Specification

Entry Level

Mid-Range

High Spec (Pro S)

Max Power

125 kW (170 PS)

140 kW (190 PS)

170 kW (231 PS)

Battery Capacity

50 kWh

58 kWh

79 kWh

WLTP Range

~350 km

~430 km

630 km

The standout 79 kWh variant offers an impressive WLTP range of up to 630 km. In local terms, this means a drive from Kuala Lumpur to Penang could realistically be completed on a single charge, placing the ID.3 Neo in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3 in the Malaysian market.

Will It Come to Malaysia?

While Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has yet to confirm an official launch date, the recent expansion of the ID family in Malaysia (including the ID.4) makes the ID.3 Neo a strong candidate for our market. If priced between RM160,000 and RM190,000, it could become a formidable rival to popular models such as the BYD Atto 3 and MG4 EV.
