The Malaysian automotive market remained strong in April 2026, supported by improved delivery momentum and post-Hari Raya demand. According to the latest vehicle registration data released by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), national brand Perodua delivered a record-breaking performance.

Perodua continued its unshakable lead, registering 32,065 units in April — its highest monthly sales of 2026. This strong showing pushed the brand's year-to-date (YTD) total past the 100,000-unit milestone to 106,298 units, making it the first brand to achieve this feat this year.
Proton secured second place with 17,980 units delivered, bringing its YTD total to 66,420 units. Toyota followed in third with 9,055 units (including reconditioned units), marking its best monthly performance of the year so far and a YTD total of 31,254 units.

Honda ranked fourth with 3,969 units. While this was lower than March's exceptional 7,053 units (due to year-end push), it remained healthier than January and February figures. Its YTD total now stands at 17,566 units.
The standout performer of the month was Mitsubishi, which delivered 1,576 units — a 1.6-fold increase from March. Powered by strong demand for the new Xforce, the brand climbed to 6th place overall.

Chinese marques continued to gain ground:

In the luxury segment, Mercedes-Benz led German rivals with 891 units (10th place), while BMW recorded 516 units (15th). Lexus performed well with 586 units. Emerging brands also showed promise, with iCaur (547 units, 14th) and Zeekr (357 units, 18th) reflecting growing interest in new energy and smart mobility solutions.

April's data shows that while Honda experienced a post-peak correction, overall market momentum remains healthy. Perodua's dominance looks unassailable in the near term, while Mitsubishi's strong rebound with the Xforce proves that the right product at the right time can still make a significant impact in Malaysia's highly competitive SUV market.
With more new model launches expected in May and June, another major reshuffle in the sales rankings is highly anticipated.
