Volvo has announced a global emergency recall for around 40,323 units of its fully electric EX30 SUV, due to defective batteries that may overheat and catch fire.
The problematic batteries were supplied by Sunwoda to Geely between June 2021 and December 2023.
Sunwoda has already agreed to a
US$89 million settlement over the issue.
Volvo has advised affected owners to limit charging to 70% and park away from buildings to reduce fire risk.
Malaysia confirmed affected
Volvo Cars Malaysia has confirmed that some locally assembled 2024–2025 EX30 models in Malaysia are included in the recall.
The replacement of affected batteries will be fully covered by the supplier, with all affected units receiving new batteries.
