Great Wall Motor Malaysia (GWM Malaysia)’s premium MPV offensive is expected to enter a new gear soon, as the company has just opened bookings for the new 2027 GWM Wey G9 HEV in the country.
Yes – this is the self-charging version of the Wey G9 premium MPV, as opposed to the current plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model.
For the upcoming Weh G9 HEV, the company has yet to reveal any official local specifications, but a peek at China gives a clue.
The China-market model gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that does 238 PS, mated to GWM’s four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (4 DHT).
Being a HEV also means that the battery capacity is likely smaller than the PHEV variant, with some sources indicating a 3.64 kWh ternary lithium pack on offer.
Detailed specifications of the HEV variant will be made available upon the model’s official launch.
For reference, the GWM Wey G9 PHEV is priced at RM 269,800.

Chery Malaysia has officially announced a recall for the Omoda 5 following the recent rear axle detachment incident in Johor Bahru.
The recall covers affected Omoda 5 C and H variants, with Chery identifying a potential issue involving a rear axle component manufactured in 2023. The company says affected vehicles will receive free inspections and component replacements where necessary.
Owners can check whether their vehicles are involved by entering their chassis number on their website. Even if your vehicle isn't listed, Chery says you can still arrange an inspection at an authorised service centre. Second-hand owners are eligible too. It's a free check.
