The 29th Chengdu Motor Show kicked off On 21 August 2026. Spanning 220,000 square metres, the show brings together nearly 120 brands and around 1,600 vehicles. It’s the first major motor show to be held in China in the second half of the year.
For Malaysian car enthusiasts, the significance of the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show isn’t really about which cars are coming here. It’s about getting a glimpse of just how dynamic and competitive the Chinese automotive market has become.
ZEEKR unveiled a concept car at the show called the ZEEKR 0.01.
The designer of this car isn't a professional, but a six-year-old boy named Justin. ZEEKR took his childhood drawing, titled "Xuanjia Thunder Racing Car", and turned it into a physical concept car. The brand even held a dedicated launch and delivery ceremony for the young designer.
This isn't just a static model. It has its own unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), with several parts built on ZEEKR's actual factory production line, and its certificate of conformity was personally signed by the head of manufacturing.
Justin named the car the "ZEEKR 0.01". ZEEKR explained that the name carries a special meaning—it is not a product meant for commercial sale, but rather a pure, tangible response to a child's dream.
Xiaomi brought the SkyNomad N90 Max and N70 Max to the motor show, showcasing both its fully electric and range-extended lineups together on stage for the first time. The pre-sale price for the N90 Max is RMB 299,900, while the N70 Max is going for RMB 259,900.
The N90 Max is a seven-seater range-extended SUV measuring 5,285 mm long with a 3,080 mm wheelbase. Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder range extender, it boasts a combined range of 1,705 km.
Interestingly, the display car features a tea table set up in the middle row, complete with a tea set to showcase a family outing scenario.
A clear trend emerged at this year's Chengdu Motor Show: almost every manufacturer showcased their own take on the boxy SUV. From the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 to the iCAUR V25, and the Jetour Huanyouzhe to the M-Hero X700, these boxy models span a wide price range from RMB 100,000 to RMB 500,000.
Making its global debut at the show is the iCAUR V25, positioned as a boxy range-extended SUV in the RMB 150,000 bracket.
It features retro circular headlights, a rugged boxy silhouette, an electric-only range of over 210 km, and a total combined range of over 1,200 km.
The Jetour Huanyouzhe also made its debut, with bookings now open for just RMB 9.9. Positioned as a "global urban pure electric boxy SUV", it marks Jetour's first-ever fully electric model.
The M-Hero X700 takes things to the extreme, positioned as a luxury smart all-terrain SUV packed with Huawei's Qiankun full-stack intelligent technology. Measuring over five metres in length, it features an 800V electrical architecture and a 68.1 kWh battery pack sourced from CATL.
Epicland is a new energy vehicle (NEV) brand jointly developed by Dongfeng and Huawei. Its debut model, the Epicland X9, opened for pre-orders three days before the show, racking up over 20,000 bookings within 24 hours. Pre-sale pricing starts from RMB 299,800.
The SUV is equipped with Huawei's six core Qiankun smart vehicle solutions. The entire range comes with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving system, supported by an 896-line dual-beam LiDAR.
It also marks the industry debut of the HarmonySpace 6 smart cockpit. Inside, the cabin offers a generous 3,294 mm of usable length, complete with dual 17.2-inch screens and a 21-speaker HUAWEI SOUND audio system.
