Proton eMas surpasses 30,000 registrations in Malaysia after just 20 months

Proton eMas has achieved 31,504 xEV registrations in Malaysia as of 31 July 2026, making it the fastest automotive brand in the country to cross the 30,000-unit milestone.

The achievement comes just 20 months after the Proton eMas 7 was launched in December 2024, highlighting the rapid growth of electrified vehicle adoption in Malaysia.

Of the total, 30,293 units were registered domestically, while another 1,211 units have been exported to overseas markets since Proton eMas began its export operations.

The Proton eMas 5 has also started its international rollout, with 130 units exported to overseas markets so far.

The latest milestone follows Proton eMas surpassing 20,000 registrations in 2026 alone, meaning the brand had already exceeded its entire 2025 sales volume within the first half of this year.

Proton eMas continues to lead Malaysia's xEV market

Proton eMas currently offers three electrified models in Malaysia, with each occupying a leading position within its respective segment.

The Proton eMas 5 is currently Malaysia's best-selling EV, with 13,279 units delivered.

Meanwhile, the Proton eMas 7 has recorded 12,068 units delivered, making it the country's best-selling C-segment electric SUV.

The Proton eMas 7 PHEV has also become Malaysia's best-selling plug-in hybrid model, with 4,946 units delivered.

Combined, the three models have contributed significantly to the rapid expansion of Proton eMas and the wider xEV market in Malaysia.

Commenting on the milestone, PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang said the achievement reflects growing consumer confidence in electrified vehicles.

“Surpassing 30,000 Proton eMas registrations in just 20 months reflects the growing confidence Malaysians have in electric mobility and demonstrates how quickly xEVs have become part of everyday consideration for car buyers,” he said.

Expanding Proton eMas' nationwide ecosystem

Proton eMas is also continuing to expand its retail and aftersales network alongside its growing customer base.

The brand currently has 58 dealerships nationwide, supported by 45 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres.

Charging infrastructure is another key area of focus, with the Proton eMas Integrated Live Charging Map now listing more than 4,700 charging points across the country, covering more than 90% of Malaysia.

More than 1,500 of these charging points are located across over 600 condominiums, providing additional charging options for customers living in high-rise developments.

Through participating high-rise residential charging partners, Proton eMas owners can also access charging rates from as low as RM0.63 per kWh when payment is made through the Proton eMas app.

According to Zhang, the expansion of the ecosystem is intended to make EV ownership more convenient while addressing one of the major concerns surrounding EV adoption – charging accessibility.

“Building great electric vehicles is only part of the journey. Our responsibility is to make EV ownership simple and worry-free, whether through expanding our retail and aftersales network, growing charging access, strengthening local manufacturing or listening closely to feedback from our customers,” he said.

All three Proton eMas models now assembled locally

Proton eMas is also increasing its contribution to Malaysia's EV manufacturing ecosystem.

Following the commencement of local assembly for the Proton eMas 7 PHEV, all three Proton eMas models are now assembled in Malaysia.

The Proton eMas 7 PHEV currently has 30% local content, with localisation expected to increase progressively in the coming years.

To support growing domestic demand and export opportunities, Proton has also invested an additional RM 37 million to expand the capabilities of Malaysia's first dedicated EV manufacturing facility.

The investment increases annual production capacity from 20,000 units to 42,000 units.

The expansion is expected to support both the growing Malaysian market and Proton eMas' expanding export operations.

With more than 30,000 registrations achieved in just 20 months, Proton eMas is positioning itself as a major player in Malaysia's rapidly expanding xEV market, while its growing local assembly operations and charging ecosystem are also contributing to the development of the country's wider EV industry.
