The Proton S70 RS name has surfaced in a Malaysian trademark application, suggesting it could be used for the upcoming S70 facelift.

If someone told you that RM89,800 buys you a car with 181 PS, 290 Nm, and a 0-100 km/h sprint of 7.5 seconds, whereas RM149,900 only gets you 180 hp, 240 Nm, and an 8.3-second century run, you would probably wonder if the pricier car had been tagged with the wrong price.

Priced at RM99,900 for the Honda City 1.5 RS and RM84,800 for the Proton S70 Flagship (after rebates), there is an RM15,100 difference between the two. Park them side by side, and you will immediately realise they feel like cars from two distinct segments.

In the Proton showroom, there is a car wearing an RM89,800 price tag with a spec sheet that reads like a luxury car's checklist: a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, plus 181 PS and 290 Nm.

The second facelift of the Proton S70 (MC2) is still undergoing testing, with another camouflaged test car recently spotted around Tanjung Malim, Perak.
