September 2026 Malaysia Car Sales: Proton Saga returns to the top of Malaysia's car sales chart, overtakes Bezza

The Proton Saga returned to the top of Malaysia's monthly car sales chart in September, registering 8,671 units. That was 18.5% more than in August and gave the sedan its third monthly win of the year after January and May.

The Perodua Bezza fell to second with 7,779 units, down 7.5%, while the Perodua Axia was only 101 units behind in third with 7,678. The Perodua Myvi and Alza completed the top five.

The Bezza remains ahead year to date with 73,476 registrations, compared with 68,038 for the Saga. The Saga has narrowed the gap from 6,330 at the end of August to 5,438 after September.

The Proton S70 was sixth with 2,756 units. Although that was below its August record of 3,235, it was still the model's second-best month since launch. The Perodua Ativa rose 17.4% to 2,687 and was September's best-selling SUV.

The Jetour T2 was the month's biggest ranking mover, jumping from 32nd to 15th with 1,248 units, nearly three times its August result. The new T2 i-DM plug-in hybrid contributed 342 units.

The Honda City had a difficult month, falling to 19th with 874 units, down 42.7%. The decline came as the facelifted City was launched on September 24, making a pause in registrations a plausible explanation, although the sales data alone cannot confirm buyer behaviour.
