In today's Malaysian automotive landscape, RM17,000 is a rather delicate figure. While not quite enough to bridge two entirely different vehicle segments, it is certainly sufficient to land two fundamentally contrasting machines on the very same shortlist.
The Jetour T2 2.0T XWD retails at an OTR price without insurance of RM156,800, whereas the GWM Haval H6 HEV comes in at RM139,800. One channels its budget into all-wheel drive and a 2.0-litre turbocharged powerplant; the other stakes its claim on a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain backed by comprehensive, long-term warranty coverage.
Both are practical five-seaters and neither skimps on standard kit, yet their approaches to daily motoring diverge in almost every meaningful metric.

The XWD all-wheel drive system is undeniably the headline mechanical feature of the T2. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine churns out 241 hp and 375 Nm of torque from just 1,750 rpm, channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
On dry tarmac, this driveline operates unnoticed in the background. Its true capability comes alive on slippery wet roads, loose gravel, or when clawing out of tricky unpaved terrain. A commanding 220 mm ground clearance alongside a 700 mm water wading depth further cements its rugged off-road brief.

Conversely, the H6 HEV is front-wheel-driven. Pairing a 1.5-litre turbo engine with an electric motor, the hybrid setup produces a potent combined output of 240 hp and 530 Nm, dispatching the 0-100 km/h sprint in a brisk 7.7 seconds. On paper, the H6 HEV is noticeably fleeter on its feet than the T2, and that massive 530 Nm system torque translates to effortless punch during city overtakes.
However, being purely front-wheel drive, all that grunt is handled solely by the front tyres. Under full throttle off the line or on rain-slicked bitumen, the front rubber must cope with steering and propulsion at the same time, hitting physical grip limits earlier than an AWD setup.

The verdict here does not come down to which system is intrinsically superior, but whether your daily driving actually calls for all-wheel drive. If your neighbourhood is prone to flash floods, or your weekend getaways regularly take you off the beaten track, AWD delivers an invaluable layer of traction insurance that needs no second thought.
If your commute consists almost exclusively of city streets and highways, the front-driven H6 HEV leaves little to be desired in everyday scenarios, while delivering a clear class advantage in powertrain efficiency and fuel economy.

The factory-claimed combined fuel consumption for the T2 stands at 7.9 L/100 km, whereas the H6 HEV is rated at 5.8 L/100 km. The rugged, upright boxy silhouette lends the T2 undeniable road presence, but it also pays an aerodynamic penalty; expect its real-world fuel consumption in stop-and-go Klang Valley crawl to sit well above official claims.
The series-parallel hybrid setup in the H6 HEV, by contrast, shines in heavy urban congestion, keeping real-world combined consumption hovering efficiently around the 7.3 L/100 km mark.

Assuming an annual mileage of 20,000 km and RON95 petrol at the subsidised rate of RM2.05 per litre, running on official figures puts the annual petrol bill for the T2 at around RM3,239 versus RM2,378 for the H6 HEV—a yearly delta of RM861, or roughly RM4,305 over five years.
The annual road tax discrepancy is even sharper: RM439 for the 2.0L T2 against just RM120 for the 1.5L H6 HEV. Factor in fuel savings alongside road tax, and the H6 HEV saves its owner upwards of RM5,900 over a five-year ownership cycle. While it won't instantly recoup the RM17,000 premium on day one, it steadily closes the real-world ownership expenditure gap with every passing year.
The higher your annual mileage and the denser your daily traffic, the quicker that gap diminishes.

The T2 arrives with a 7-year/150,000 km manufacturer's vehicle warranty, a 10-year/1,000,000 km powertrain warranty, and five complimentary service sessions covering both parts and labour.
For a relatively fresh brand in the local market, that is a compelling aftersales package that easily blankets the ownership tenure of the average buyer.

However, the warranty structure of the H6 HEV merits a closer inspection. Its full vehicle warranty spans 7 years or 200,000 km—an extra 50,000 km of mileage headroom over the T2. Both engine and high-voltage battery coverage run for 10 years or 1,000,000 km, while the dedicated HEV hybrid system is backed for 8 years or 1,000,000 km.
Crucially, this comprehensive warranty is fully transferable to the subsequent owner. For a vehicle likely to enter the used car market within five to seven years, factory-backed transferable coverage offers immense peace of mind and shores up its secondary market residual value.

The T2 holds a definitive edge in sheer footprint.
It measures 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,880 mm tall, riding on a 2,800 mm wheelbase, complete with a 580-litre boot. Its boxy profile maximises vertical space, paying immediate practical dividends in generous rear passenger headroom and effortless cargo loading.

The H6 HEV is somewhat more compact, measuring 4,683 mm in length, 1,886 mm in width, and 1,730 mm in height, with a 2,738 mm wheelbase and a 560-litre boot. Even so, practicality is hardly compromised; a 560-litre cargo area is more than accommodating for family road trips and grocery runs alike.
In-cabin appointments are equally matched, with both contenders boasting large infotainment touchscreens, wireless smartphone integration, a panoramic glass roof, and full Level 2 ADAS suites. The T2 claws ahead with an upgraded Sony audio system and ventilated front seats, while the H6 HEV counters with a powered tailgate and a handy head-up display (HUD).
At this equipment tier, differences come down to personal preference rather than deal-breakers.
Behind the wheel of the T2, you rarely need to dwell on drivetrain limitations. The all-wheel drive system quietly does its job, offering an inherent safety net when carving through waterlogged highway interchanges during heavy tropical downpours or tackling loose gravel paths.
Its rugged silhouette and tailgate-mounted spare wheel project an aura of go-anywhere ruggedness that cannot simply be measured on a spec sheet. If unpaved trail excursions are on your radar, or if AWD mechanical redundancy brings genuine peace of mind, the T2's RM17,000 premium is accounted for in tangible hardware.

For the H6 HEV driver, zero adjustment to daily habits is required. As a self-charging hybrid, there is no plug-in fuss; you pump petrol just like any conventional ICE car. Yet its electric drive seamlessly cushions urban low-speed crawls, while the instantaneous 530 Nm of system torque eliminates any frustrating delay waiting for turbo boost to build.
If your everyday routine revolves strictly around urban commutes and interstate highways with no off-road ambitions, the H6 HEV keeps that RM17,000 difference firmly in your pocket, returning lower fuel bills, cheaper road tax, and an extended, transferable warranty over its lifecycle.

Ultimately, an extra RM17,000 does not buy outright superiority here. It buys a deliberate choice of priorities: whether the mechanical headroom of an AWD drivetrain and rugged aesthetic appeal outweigh the relentless fuel savings of a refined hybrid system and the long-term resale security of transferable aftersales coverage.
Both SUVs understand their respective assignments clearly; the final verdict rests entirely on the roads you travel every day.
