Looking to buy a pure electric SUV for RM100,000? There is now a new contender on your shortlist. The Dongfeng Vigo, launched in February 2026 in a single Premier variant, carries an official retail price of RM108,888, though early-bird rebates slash it straight down to RM100,000.

It is priced on par with the BYD Atto 2. Both are entry-level electric SUVs, but with different personalities. The Atto 2 is the safe, default choice, whereas the Vigo dazzles in certain areas while leaving you second-guessing in others.

Note: Bold text indicates the superior spec. The Vigo’s WLTP range is an estimate, as only the official CLTC figure of 471 km is published. Both models feature Level 2 ADAS including AEB, ACC, and Lane Keeping Assist. The Vigo’s vehicle and powertrain warranties are provided by CADB with unlimited mileage. The Atto 2’s range is 410 km under NEDC, which converts to approximately 345 km on WLTP.
Let's look at the hard figures first.
The Vigo is powered by a 51.87 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering an official CLTC range of 471 km, which translates to around 330 to 380 km on the WLTP cycle.
Its front-mounted electric motor puts out 161 hp and 230 Nm of torque, clocking 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. While adequate for daily city commutes, don't expect any neck-snapping acceleration.

What truly allows the Vigo to stand out in this price bracket are two key strengths.
First is its charging speed. With a 167 kW DC fast charging capacity, a 30% to 80% state of charge takes just 18 minutes.
To put that into perspective, the similarly priced BYD Atto 2 caps out at 82 kW DC, requiring 28 minutes for the same charge window. The Vigo charges almost twice as fast, making a world of difference during long-distance road trips.

The second advantage is interior packaging. The Vigo measures 4,306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide, and 1,654 mm tall, riding on a 2,715 mm wheelbase.
By comparison, the Atto 2 comes in at 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. While both share similar overall lengths, the Vigo is 38 mm wider and boasts a 95 mm longer wheelbase. That extra 95 mm wheelbase translates into noticeably superior rear legroom.

At the rear, the Vigo's 500-litre boot easily outclasses the Atto 2's 380-litre capacity.
It also features a unique split-opening tailgate, where the lower drop-down section can support up to 150 kg—ideal as an impromptu bench or a camping platform. A feature like this is rare at the RM100,000 mark and adds genuine day-to-day practicality.

The Vigo comes generously equipped with a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, six airbags, a 540-degree camera system, and Level 2 ADAS including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Lane Keeping Assist.
The seats are wrapped in synthetic leather, with the driver getting memory and ventilation functions alongside power adjustment for the front passenger. A 50W wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof are all standard.

Against the Atto 2, the Vigo gains ventilated front seats and a 540-degree camera, whereas the Atto 2 counters with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen and a 6-speaker Dirac sound system, sharing the same 6-airbag count.
Both cars offer Level 2 driver assistance suites, each with slightly different feature priorities.
The Vigo's most vulnerable point lies in its brand equity and after-sales backing.
Dongfeng is distributed locally by CADB (a PEKEMA subsidiary) alongside Carro, currently operating a single showroom at PJ Midtown.
On paper, its after-sales package looks formidable: a 6-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, an 8-year unlimited-mileage powertrain warranty, and a complimentary ABB home wallbox charger.
This appears more generous than the Atto 2's 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and 8-year/160,000 km battery coverage.

However, a warranty is only as good as the service network backing it up. BYD has already built an extensive, proven service infrastructure across Malaysia with a clear claims track record.
Dongfeng’s local network is still in its infancy; while PJ Midtown is manageable if you live in the Klang Valley, outstation buyers must seriously weigh the after-sales accessibility in their respective states.

Both cars share identical price tags, but target completely different buyer profiles.
The Vigo is tailored for buyers prioritising rapid charging and generous rear cabin room. The 167 kW DC capability minimises downtime at public EV charging hubs, while the 95 mm wheelbase extension and 500-litre boot make it much more accommodating for families.
In return, you must be comfortable with lower badge prestige and a service network that is still expanding.
On the flip side, the Atto 2 appeals to buyers seeking peace of mind and hassle-free ownership. While it charges slower and offers tighter cabin space, BYD's established service network, brand reputation, and mature parts supply in Malaysia offer a sense of security Dongfeng cannot match yet.
The Atto 2’s 7.9-second century sprint also delivers more punch compared to the Vigo’s leisurely 9.5-second time.

If you need a larger battery and longer range, the Proton eMas 7 Premium Plus is available at RM125,800, packing a 68.39 kWh battery with a 450 km WLTP range and a 6-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
Topping up an additional RM25,800 nets you extra driving range and the backing of Proton's nationwide dealer network.

The Vigo's value proposition is crystal clear: it is among the fastest-charging and most spacious electric SUVs in the RM100,000 bracket. It does not need to beat the competition at everything—it just needs to excel at what matters most to you.
If your driving is largely urban-based with occasional interstate trips, and you frequently rely on public DC fast chargers, the Vigo’s charging advantage is an undeniable asset. However, if your routine involves frequent long-distance highway cruising or you demand proven after-sales reliability, the Atto 2 remains the safer, more reassuring bet.

The funky looks you see isn't just...for looks, but it serves a purpose as the VW Mission Efficiency is designed to be the most EFFICIENT EV.
It managed to cover 1,278 km, travelling from Wolfsburg to Vienna with just one charge. Even so, upon reaching Vienna, the estimated range is at 164 km.
