KLIMS 2026: Jetour T2 i-DM Adds Plug-In Hybrid Logic to the Rugged SUV Story

A Different Take on the T2 Formula

At KLIMS 2026, the Jetour T2 i-DM gives the brand’s boxy SUV story a more relevant electrified angle. The standard T2 has already established Jetour’s rugged-lifestyle image in Malaysia, but the i-DM version shifts the discussion beyond styling. According to Jetour’s global specification page, the T2 i-DM uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain paired with a 3DHT hybrid transmission. The same global page notes that specifications may vary by region, so these figures should be read as the product’s technical basis rather than a final Malaysian price-and-equipment sheet.

That distinction matters. For Malaysia, the T2 i-DM is best understood as a bridge between conventional SUVs and full electric vehicles. It retains the visual attitude that makes the T2 stand out, but adds a powertrain concept that addresses fuel use, long-distance driving and charging anxiety in a way many family buyers can understand.

Why the 1.5T PHEV Setup Matters

The appeal of a 1.5T PHEV system is not just lower fuel consumption on paper. In a market where many buyers still travel across states and cannot rely on consistent charging access, a plug-in hybrid can offer electric driving for urban use while retaining petrol refuelling for longer journeys. The 3DHT layout gives the T2 i-DM a more complex hybrid operating range than a simple mild-hybrid setup, allowing the vehicle to move between engine and electric assistance according to driving conditions.

This makes the T2 i-DM a more practical electrified proposition than a purely image-led SUV. Its job is not to beat every EV on acceleration or range. Its job is to make the rugged SUV format feel more efficient and more acceptable to buyers who are interested in electrification but not ready to give up the convenience of petrol completely.

Size Gives It Real Road Presence

The T2 i-DM’s global specification sheet lists a body length of 4,785 mm, width of 2,006 mm and height of 1,875 mm, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. Those numbers place it closer to a mid-size SUV footprint than a compact crossover. The wide stance and long wheelbase are central to its showroom appeal, because they support the visual promise of cabin space, family usability and stronger road presence.

For Jetour, this is important. The brand’s “Travel+” positioning depends on more than design language. It needs vehicles that feel suitable for weekend use, highway travel and family cargo needs. The T2 i-DM’s dimensions help reinforce that message, especially in a Malaysian market where SUV buyers still place high value on space and perceived durability.

What It Signals at KLIMS

Jetour’s Malaysian story has been one of rapid SUV expansion, with Dashing, X70, T1 and T2 giving the brand several entry points into the market. The T2 i-DM adds a more forward-looking layer to that strategy. Instead of jumping straight into a full EV fight, Jetour is using plug-in hybrid technology to connect its rugged SUV identity with the broader new-energy conversation.

That is a pragmatic move. Jetour is still building trust, outlet coverage and aftersales confidence in Malaysia. A PHEV flagship-style model gives the brand a technology talking point without forcing customers into a charging-only ownership model. At KLIMS 2026, the T2 i-DM therefore works as more than another variant. It shows how Jetour wants to evolve from a value SUV newcomer into a brand with clearer electrified ambitions.
