New Denza D9 teased for Malaysia: 1,500kW BYD Flash Charging tech could be on the way

The Denza D9 could be in line for an update in Malaysia as Denza Malaysia has just posted a teaser video on its official Facebook page.

While the short clip offers little in the way of technical details, it has sparked speculation that the refreshed model could be heading to Malaysia soon, potentially bringing BYD's latest Flash Charging technology.

From what's shown, the MPV appears virtually unchanged from the current Malaysian-market Denza D9, suggesting that the new model may retain its familiar exterior design.

So, what could be new? One possibility is the addition of BYD's second-generation blade battery with Flash Charging technology, which made its debut on the second-generation Denza D9 in China earlier this year.

With capacity increased to 115kWh, the second-generation Blade Battery supports Flash Charging, offering a peak output of 1,500kW per charging gun. According to the company, the updated D9 can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

Range has also improved considerably. Under the CLTC cycle, the all-electric D9 in China offers a driving range of up to 800km, while the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) can travel up to 401km on electric power alone.

If the technology makes its way into the Malaysian-spec model, it would be a significant improvement in charging convenience.

And the better news is, to support the technology, BYD Malaysia has announced plans to install Flash Charging facilities at selected Denza showrooms. This means Malaysian owners could have access to the high-speed charging infrastructure needed to make the most of the system.

For reference, the Denza D9 is now available in Malaysia with two fully electric variants, both offering a seven-seat layout.

Variant Price Drivetrain WLTP Range
Denza D9 Advanced RM 259,700 FWD 520km
Denza D9 Premium RM 309,700 AWD 480km

Both variants come with a 103.6kWh BYD Blade LFP battery, supporting up to 11kW AC charging and 166kW DC fast charging. Using a DC fast charger, a 30% to 80% charge takes around 30 minutes.
