Mitsubishi Motors has released its global production, sales, and export figures for Fiscal Year 2025 (April 2025 to March 2026). The Japanese automaker produced a total of 913,279 vehicles worldwide, marking a modest 0.4% increase compared to the previous year — the first annual growth recorded since FY2021.

Global Production: Japan Leads the Recovery

In FY2025, Mitsubishi's production focus shifted significantly toward Japan.

  • Domestic Production (Japan): 488,983 units (+2.2% YoY) — the first year-on-year increase since FY2023.
  • Overseas Production: 424,296 units (-1.6% YoY), marking the third consecutive year of decline.

In March 2026 alone, global production reached 86,982 units (+17.9% YoY), with domestic output surging 26.0% to 51,761 units, recording its fifth straight month of growth.

Japan Domestic Sales: K-Cars Remain Strong

In its home market, Mitsubishi posted steady growth with 122,823 units sold in FY2025 (+4.5% YoY), achieving its fourth consecutive year of increase.

  • Minicars (K-Cars): 74,308 units — driven by strong demand for models like the Delica Mini, which successfully combines adventurous spirit with everyday practicality.
  • Registered Vehicles (Non-K Cars): 48,515 units.

Export Performance: North America Remains Key

Total exports for FY2025 stood at 236,605 units (-0.3% YoY). However, March saw a strong rebound with 24,097 units exported (+46.1% YoY).

North America continued to be a bright spot, with exports reaching 123,558 units for the full year (+6.5%). In March alone, shipments to the region rose 27.4% to 11,578 units.

Editor's Take

For the Malaysian market, Mitsubishi's production strategy in ASEAN remains highly relevant. Although overseas production saw a slight decline, the company continues to emphasise its manufacturing footprint in the region.

With strong global performers like the Outlander PHEV and Triton pickup, Malaysian consumers can expect more new models to arrive — whether through Thai production hubs or local CKD assembly — to strengthen Mitsubishi's competitiveness in Malaysia.
