China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released patent images of the Beijing Hyundai IONIQ V. Developed specifically for the Chinese market under the IONIQ sub-brand, this new model not only showcases Hyundai's latest New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technology but also introduces a groundbreaking "BEV + EREV" dual-powertrain system on a single platform.
For the Malaysian market, where Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has been actively expanding the IONIQ lineup with models like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, this new IONIQ V — which combines long-range capability with ultra-fast charging — is definitely one to watch.

Designed by Hyundai's China Design Center, the IONIQ V adopts a bold fastback SUV silhouette that breaks away from traditional boxy designs.
Dimensions: 4,900 mm (L) × 1,890 mm (W) × 1,470 mm (H), with a generous 2,900 mm wheelbase. This provides spacious rear legroom, perfectly suited to Malaysian expectations for D-segment vehicles.

The IONIQ V is built on Hyundai's advanced E-GMP dedicated EV platform and offers two powertrain options:
Battery cells are supplied by CATL, ensuring high energy density and top-tier safety standards.

The IONIQ V is equipped with flagship-level intelligent features:
Although primarily developed for China, the IONIQ V is expected to be part of Hyundai's "reverse global export" strategy. If a right-hand-drive (RHD) version is introduced in the future, it could become a strong contender against the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3 in Malaysia.
The EREV variant, in particular, has the potential to fill a significant gap in the premium extended-range electric vehicle segment locally.
