The Malaysian B-SUV segment remains one of the hottest battlegrounds in the local automotive market. With several new models making their debut, the competition has evolved from a traditional Japanese showdown into a multi-brand free-for-all.
According to the latest April 2026 sales data, the Proton X50 continues to dominate the segment, while the biggest dark horse of the month is undoubtedly the Mitsubishi Xforce, which stormed straight into the Top 3 immediately after its official launch.

Despite being five years into its lifecycle, the Proton X50 showed no signs of slowing down. It led the segment with 2,603 units sold in April, posting healthy year-on-year growth. In the RM90k–RM110k price range, the X50 continues to fend off newcomers thanks to its proven after-sales network and timeless design.

The Perodua Traz (built on the Toyota DNGA platform) secured a strong second place with 2,200 units. Its more affordable pricing (starting from around RM76k) makes it the preferred choice for many first-time SUV buyers.

The star of April was undoubtedly the Mitsubishi Xforce. Launched on April 8, it achieved an outstanding 1,035 units in its very first month — enough to push the Honda HR-V down to fourth place. With its class-leading 222 mm ground clearance and rugged design, the Xforce has clearly struck a chord with buyers seeking individuality and off-road capability.

Chinese marques showed strong resilience. The newly launched JAECOO J5 recorded 774 units, while the combined Chery Tiggo models (Cross, 7 & 8) delivered 686 units, demonstrating growing consumer confidence in non-traditional brands.

Although the Toyota Yaris Cross only recorded 114 units in April (mostly early deliveries and demo units), it officially launched on May 8. With attractive pricing (RM99,990 for the 1.5S and RM109,900 for the Hybrid), backed by Toyota's reputation for reliability and hybrid efficiency, the Yaris Cross is expected to significantly shake up the rankings in the coming months.

The 2026 B-SUV segment is no longer just a battle between Honda and Toyota. While Proton and Perodua continue to hold strong, Mitsubishi's impressive comeback and the rising tide of Chinese brands have intensified the competition. With the full impact of the Toyota Yaris Cross still to come, a major reshuffle in the Top 5 looks inevitable this May.
