Following its debut at the Singapore Motorshow earlier this year, the Proton e.MAS 5 has officially gone on sale in the Lion City. This marks the second fully electric Proton model launched in Singapore, after the e.MAS 7's return last year.

In Singapore, Proton is represented by its authorised distributor, Vincar Group. Currently, only the high-spec Premium variant is available:
For comparison, the same e.MAS 5 Premium is priced at just RM69,800 in Malaysia. In other words, the price of one unit in Singapore could buy roughly seven units in Malaysia with some change left over.
This massive price difference is largely due to Singapore's notoriously high Certificate of Entitlement (COE). In the first bidding round of May 2026, Cat A COE prices soared to SGD 124,790 (approx. RM386,000) — meaning the "paper" alone costs more than five times the price of the car in Malaysia.

The Singapore-spec e.MAS 5 shares the same specifications as the Malaysian version:
The power output is deliberately tuned to stay within Cat A COE limits (below 150 PS), helping buyers avoid the much more expensive Cat B category.

In terms of charging efficiency, the e.MAS 5 maintains mainstream standards.
Singaporean owners will enjoy premium after-sales benefits, including a 10-year battery warranty, 5 years of cross-border data roaming, and Cross-border Warranty Support — allowing them to service the vehicle in Malaysia.

The e.MAS 5 maintains its strong value proposition with:
Five elegant dual-tone colours are available: Moonstone White, Graphite Silver, Slate Grey, Marble Cream, and Quartz Rose (all with a black roof).

Seeing the e.MAS 5 priced at nearly RM500,000 in Singapore makes Malaysians feel considerably luckier. While Singapore has many advantages, car affordability is definitely not one of them.
As deliveries begin in both countries, it will be interesting to see whether the e.MAS 5 — with its RWD layout and multi-link suspension — can carve out a strong position in the Southeast Asian market. We'll be watching closely.
