Following the global excitement surrounding Xiaomi's first electric SUV, the YU7, new regulatory filings from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have revealed an upcoming entry-level variant. This new version features a smaller 73.0 kWh battery pack, signalling Xiaomi's intention to offer a more accessible option in its SUV lineup.

Compared to the standard variant's larger 96.3 kWh battery, the new entry-level model has shed significant weight, with a curb weight of just 2,200 kg — 115 kg lighter than the standard version. This reduction is expected to deliver better energy efficiency and sharper handling dynamics.

Despite being the more affordable variant, this version maintains its imposing road presence with unchanged dimensions:
This generous size ensures excellent cabin space, a crucial factor for Malaysian families.

The entry-level model is equipped with a rear-mounted single motor (TZ220XY110) producing 235 kW, supplied by Suzhou Inovance Automotive.
While Xiaomi Auto has yet to officially launch in Malaysia, the introduction of more affordable variants makes the brand's regional expansion even more exciting. If this 73.0 kWh YU7 hits our shores with a competitive price tag to challenge the Tesla Model Y RWD, it could be a game-changer for the local EV market.
