Toyota has been highly active in the South Asian market. Following its earlier announcement to expand electrification efforts, Toyota has officially confirmed the establishment of a new manufacturing plant in the Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra, India.
The new facility will operate under Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and aims to strengthen Toyota's foundation in India and the broader region, particularly to meet growing demand in the SUV segment.

According to available information, the primary purpose of this new plant is to produce a brand-new SUV model. While Toyota has not yet disclosed the specific name, industry sources believe it will be a high-value, technologically advanced SUV tailored for emerging markets, with potential for export to neighbouring countries.
Location: Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra, India
Production Start: First half of 2029
Annual Capacity: Approximately 100,000 vehicles
Job Creation: Around 2,800 new positions
Main Processes: Stamping, welding, painting, and assembly
Main Product: New SUV model

Toyota officials highlighted the immense potential of the Indian market, noting that existing production capacity has reached saturation due to surging demand for quality SUVs. The new plant is not only intended to serve local customers but also to support exports to surrounding regions.
Toyota expressed gratitude to local communities and partners, emphasising that the facility will feature high production flexibility to quickly adapt to changing market demands.
Although this development is focused on the Indian market, it is still relevant for Malaysian consumers. In recent years, Toyota has increasingly adopted a "resource sharing" strategy across Asia. Many SUVs first introduced in India or Indonesia (such as the Urban Cruiser Taisor) have later influenced models in the Southeast Asian market.
This new Indian plant and its upcoming SUV could very well preview the design direction and features of future Toyota models in Malaysia.
