We have been closely monitoring Honda's strategy in the D-segment SUV market. While the CR-V continues to enjoy strong success locally, Honda has long lacked a competitive offering in the premium 7-seater flagship segment. However, according to the 2026 Honda Business Briefing and the brand's latest product roadmap, this gap may soon be filled.
The long-rumoured all-new Honda Avancier is set to transition from a China-exclusive model to a true Global Strategic Model. Most importantly, it will be produced in Thailand, putting it just one step away from the Malaysian market.

Previously, the Avancier was known for its exceptional rear legroom in a 5-seater layout. The next-generation model will be developed on Honda's next-generation platform, with increased overall dimensions. It is expected to adopt a more upright and practical design, moving away from the current coupe-SUV roofline to ensure comfortable third-row space for adults.
With the global sedan market shrinking, this high-value 7-seater SUV could potentially take over the Accord's role as Honda's flagship model in Southeast Asia.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe confirmed that the brand will introduce a next-generation hybrid system in 2027. The new Avancier is expected to be among the first models to receive it:
As part of Honda's 2026 digitalisation push, the new Avancier will feature:

Thailand has been designated as Honda's strategic production hub for high-value, large-sized models in the region. Thanks to the AFTA framework, locally produced models from Thailand can enter Malaysia with significant advantages.
If this new 7-seater flagship arrives, it will directly compete with the Mazda CX-8/CX-9 and Hyundai Santa Fe. For family buyers who find the CR-V too compact but prefer a more stylish SUV over traditional MPVs, the global Avancier could be one of the most anticipated Honda models before 2027.
Honda is clearly refocusing on hybrids and high-margin models. The globalisation of the Avancier signals the brand's determination to reclaim its position in the D-segment SUV market.
What price range do you think would make this new 7-seater flagship a winner in Malaysia?
