Vision BMW ALPINA Debuts at Villa d'Este: A Modern Masterpiece That Keeps the V8 Soul Alive

The BMW Group has officially unveiled the Vision BMW ALPINA concept car at the 2026 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy. This striking design study not only presents an ultra-modern vision of luxury but also faithfully preserves ALPINA's most emotional elements — a powerful V8 powertrain and its signature ICE exhaust note — offering a clear hint at the future direction of this legendary high-performance brand.

5.2-Metre Sleek Body with Reimagined Sharknose

Measuring an imposing 5,200 mm in length with a wide and low-slung stance, the Vision BMW ALPINA exudes the commanding aura of a full-sized flagship Coupé.

The most eye-catching feature is the reinterpreted "Sharknose" front end — a tribute to the classic Alpina B7 Coupé. BMW's signature kidney grille has been transformed into a striking three-dimensional sculpture, surrounded by a hidden "Dawn Break White" illuminated border that glows subtly when activated.

The side profile features a dramatically elongated fastback roofline that enhances the sense of speed while promising a spacious and comfortable four-seat cabin.

Supersized Iconic Wheels & Signature Quad Exhausts

True to its ALPINA DNA, the concept boasts enlarged 20-spoke wheels, scaled up to 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear, creating a powerful visual statement.

At the rear, the classic oval-shaped quad exhaust tips are proudly retained. According to BMW, the bespoke-tuned V8 engine produces a deep, rumbling idle that builds into a rich, layered roar at higher revs — a clear declaration that the spirit of internal combustion remains very much alive.

The classic ALPINA lettering is elegantly integrated into the front splitter as machined and polished metal elements, seamlessly blending with the overall design.

Unique 6° Speed Line

A unique design feature is the "Speed Line" — a subtle 6-degree visual axis that runs from the front bumper, along the flanks, and wraps around the rear. The iconic ALPINA Deco Lines, a brand signature since 1974, are masterfully integrated beneath the clear coat, creating a perfectly flush, tactile finish.

The cabin echoes this theme, with the 6-degree Speed Line dividing the interior — the upper section finished in Granite Green and the lower in Meltwater White full-grain leather.

Bespoke Digital Experience & Rear Luxury

The interior introduces the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system paired with a dedicated front passenger display. The UI is customised for ALPINA, retaining the brand's signature blue and green hues. When switching from Comfort+ to Sport mode, the interface colours intensify dynamically. Even the background wallpaper accurately depicts the Alpine mountain view from ALPINA's headquarters in Buchloe.

The attention to detail is exceptional:

  • Classic blue-and-green bridge stitching on the steering wheel.
  • Horology-grade beveling, satin brushing, and polishing on metal components.
  • Crystal elements used for key driver touchpoints such as the gear selector and start button.

The rear centre armrest features a hidden, motorized pop-up compartment that reveals a glass carafe and exclusive BMW ALPINA crystal glasses. Each glass is engraved with 20 Deco Lines, and the rims are precisely angled at 6 degrees to match the Speed Line, secured via hidden magnets — a level of luxury that rivals a Rolls-Royce.

Summary

When BMW Group brought ALPINA fully under its wing a few years ago, many purists feared the brand would lose its soul. The global debut of the Vision BMW ALPINA puts those concerns to rest. It successfully combines modern luxury and futuristic design with the emotional appeal of a V8 engine and timeless German elegance.
