Mercedes-Benz GLA Nightfall Edition launched in Malaysia – AMG Line, more equipment, from RM258,888

The H247 Mercedes-Benz GLA has been given a refreshed Nightfall Edition update in Malaysia, introduced while its fully electric successor remains at least a year away from launch. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has chosen to enhance the compact SUV’s equipment list significantly while keeping prices unchanged, making this a stronger value proposition for buyers in the local market.

Priced at RM258,888 for the GLA200 Nightfall Edition and RM295,888 for the GLA250 Nightfall Edition on-the-road without insurance, both variants come standard with a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. The biggest highlight of this update is that the entire GLA range now features the AMG Line exterior package, which was previously only available for the GLA250; the GLA200 moves on from the older Progressive Line styling, gaining a more aggressive front bumper, a diffuser-like rear valance, and cross-drilled sports brakes as part of the upgrade.

In terms of wheels, the GLA200 now adopts 19-inch five-split-spoke AMG alloy wheels with a two-tone black finish, while the GLA250 steps up to larger 20-inch black multi-spoke alloy rollers. The GLA250 also benefits from Multibeam LED matrix projector headlights, a premium upgrade over the LED reflector lamps fitted to the GLA200. As the Nightfall Edition name implies, the Night Package is included across both models, finishing the grille bar, front lip spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper inserts, door mirrors, roof rails, and exhaust tips in gloss black for a more stylish and sporty presence.

Inside the cabin, the two variants are now far more closely matched, with the GLA200 receiving Artico faux leather and microfibre upholstery, an AMG Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, sports seats, brushed aluminium trim, alloy pedals, and a black headlining, features that were already standard on the GLA250. Addressing a long-standing oversight, both models now come equipped with Thermotronic dual-zone automatic air conditioning, which finally includes rear air vents, alongside a 360-degree camera for easier parking and manoeuvring. The rest of the equipment list carries over unchanged, with dual 10.25-inch displays for the MBUX infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi wireless charger, keyless entry, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats with memory, 64-colour ambient lighting, active park assist, and a hands-free powered tailgate, although the speaker count remains at six units.

Safety specifications are untouched as well, with both GLA variants offering seven airbags including a driver’s knee airbag, electronic stability control, and a suite of driver assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, door opening warning, driver attention monitor, and automatic high beam. The GLA250 adds adaptive high beam and comes pre-installed with hardware for Distronic adaptive cruise control, although a subscription is required to activate the latter function.

Mechanically, there are no changes to the powertrain lineup. The GLA200 continues to be powered by the Renault-derived M282 1.3 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 163 PS at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 1,620 to 4,000 rpm, paired with a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels. The GLA250, updated since 2024, uses Mercedes’ in-house M260 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder engine producing 224 PS at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm, supported by a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator that adds an extra 14 PS and 150 Nm of temporary boost. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive for improved traction and performance.
