The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV has made an impressive start in Malaysia, securing more than 3,500 bookings in just one and a half months since order books opened in mid-January, ahead of its official launch on 4 February. Pro-Net, the company behind the Proton eMAS brand, described the response as a sign of very strong market acceptance, with the plug-in hybrid model serving as a smooth, practical step for Malaysian drivers switching from regular petrol cars to electrified vehicles.

This strong booking figure comes on top of the eMAS 7 EV, which already delivered over 5,000 units in its first two months. Together, they show Malaysians are increasingly adopting electric and hybrid mobility. Zhang Qiang, CEO of Pro-Net, said that surpassing 5,000 EV deliveries in two months and 3,500 PHEV bookings in just one and a half months clearly show Malaysians are embracing electrified mobility faster than ever. He added that these results confirm their strategy of offering practical, good-value electrified solutions built for the local market.

Zhang Qiang also mentioned that the eMAS brand focuses on building a complete EV ecosystem, from vehicle design to aftersales support. Their goal is to make electrified driving accessible and reassuring for everyday Malaysian families, and this holistic approach is what truly sets the brand apart from others.

The eMAS 7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine that delivers 99 PS and 125 Nm. This engine is paired with a front electric motor producing 218 PS and 262 Nm, resulting in a combined output of 262 PS and 262 Nm of torque sent to the front wheels. Power is delivered through an 11-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, or E-DHT. In typical daily driving, the car runs mostly on electric power, while the petrol engine engages at higher speeds for improved efficiency, similar to modern dedicated hybrid systems.

The eMAS 7 PHEV is available in three variants: Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus. The Prime and Premium variants share an 18.4 kWh CATL LFP battery, which provides 83 km of pure electric range and a combined driving range of 943 km. Both variants support DC fast charging up to 30 kW, allowing a 30% to 80% charge in under 20 minutes, and complete the 0–100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds.

The range-topping Premium Plus variant uses a larger 29.8 kWh Geely Aegis short-blade LFP battery. This increases the pure electric range to 146 km and the combined range to 996 km. It also supports higher-speed DC fast charging at up to 60 kW, achieving a 30% to 80% charge in under 16 minutes, with 0–100 km/h acceleration coming up in 8.2 seconds. To maintain battery health, the system keeps the charge level between 20% and 85%, and the petrol engine can also recharge the battery while on the move.

In terms of pricing, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is sold at on-the-road prices without insurance: RM105,800 for the Prime, RM119,800 for the Premium, and RM125,800 for the Premium Plus. All these prices include a RM4,000 launch rebate for the first 5,000 customers.
