BYD Seal 7 EV Makes Overseas Debut – Will It Come to Malaysia?

BYD, a leading player in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market, has officially launched its new Seal 7 EV in overseas markets, sparking speculation about its potential arrival in Malaysia. As BYD has been deeply rooted in the local market—with a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly plant under construction in Tanjung Malim, Perak, set to start production in 2026—and has maintained a strong presence as a top-selling EV brand, the possible introduction of the Seal 7 EV has become a hot topic among local car enthusiasts.

The BYD Seal 7 EV stands out with its sportier and more youthful design compared to the current Seal 6 EV available in Malaysia. Up front, it features a closed grille paired with sharp eagle-eye headlights and more aggressive air intakes, creating a sleek and dynamic look. The side profile is enhanced by 18-inch alloy wheels and hidden door handles, while the rear is equipped with a full-width LED taillight and chrome trim that adds a touch of luxury, complemented by a stylish rear bumper decoration. Overall, the design language is more energetic, catering to Malaysian consumers who favor both aesthetics and sportiness.

In terms of performance, the Seal 7 EV is powered by a single rear-wheel-drive (RWD) electric motor paired with a 69.07 kWh battery pack. It delivers a maximum power of 326 PS (240 kW) and an estimated peak torque of 400 Nm, enabling a top speed of 200 km/h. For range, it boasts a maximum CLTC range of 705 km— a significant upgrade that addresses the range anxiety many Malaysian EV buyers face, especially for long-distance travels across Peninsular Malaysia. While the official maximum DC fast-charging capacity has not been announced, it is expected to be 100 kW or higher, allowing for quicker charging times and greater convenience for daily use.

Space is another key advantage of the Seal 7 EV. Its dimensions are 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. In comparison, the current BYD Seal 6 EV in Malaysia measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. The longer length and wheelbase of the Seal 7 EV translate to more spacious interior room, offering greater comfort for both front and rear passengers—ideal for Malaysian families who often travel with relatives or friends.

Inside the cabin, the Seal 7 EV adopts a marine luxury style dominated by blue tones, featuring a multi-function steering wheel, a 15.6-inch floating central control screen, a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting. The center console is also equipped with wireless charging and cup holders, offering better equipment than the current Seal 6 EV in Malaysia. On the safety front, it is expected to come with a more comprehensive advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), ensuring safer driving experiences for local users.

Malaysia’s EV market is currently in a period of rapid growth, with the government extending tax exemptions for locally assembled EVs until the end of 2027, making the potential local assembly of the Seal 7 EV (following the CKD plant’s launch) a possibility that could keep its price competitive. With BYD’s strong sales network (43 stores across Malaysia) and after-sales support, the Seal 7 EV, if introduced, is likely to attract significant attention from local consumers looking for a high-performance, spacious, and stylish electric sedan.

As of now, BYD has not officially confirmed the launch date of the Seal 7 EV in Malaysia. However, given the brand’s commitment to the local market and the positive response to its existing models (such as the Seal 6 EV, which had over 1,300 orders within 4 days of its launch in 2024), local car lovers are eagerly awaiting further updates about this exciting new model.
