Malaysia to Maintain Subsidised RON 95 Price at RM1.99 per Litre Under Budi95 Scheme

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Malaysia will continue to keep the price of subsidised RON 95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre under the Budi Madani RON 95 (Budi95) scheme, as reported by The Star.

For Malaysians, RON 95 is the most commonly used petrol grade, especially for private cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles, due to its affordability and compatibility with most local vehicles. The Budi95 scheme, introduced to ease the financial burden on citizens amid global fuel price fluctuations, ensures that this essential fuel remains accessible at a fixed subsidised rate.

“We will try to control the effects of the Iranian conflict to keep RON 95 at RM1.99 per litre,” the Prime Minister said. “We are monitoring the situation closely—so far, we can maintain this price for another one or two months. I urge all Malaysians, including civil servants, workers and business owners, to stay alert to any potential changes.”

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that while the Middle East conflict’s impact on Malaysia’s economy and regional geopolitics is currently under control, the 200 vessels stuck in the Strait of Hormuz (a key route for 20% of global oil supply) could affect trade and fuel stability moving forward.

In this week’s fuel price adjustments, unsubsidised RON 95 rose by 8 sen to RM2.67 per litre, while RON 97 increased by 10 sen to RM3.25 per litre. Euro 5 B10 and B20 diesel also went up by 8 sen to RM3.12 per litre, and Euro 5 B7 diesel rose by 20 sen to RM3.32 per litre.
