The 2026 Proton X90 has been officially unveiled on 11 March, marking its first mid-life update since its launch in May 2023. The biggest highlight of the new model is the full adoption of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder i-GT engine, while the model range is streamlined into three core variants, targeting the family SUV market with stronger performance and a more focused lineup.
The outgoing Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship variants have been discontinued, replaced by three new trims: Lite, Prime and Prime X.On-the-road (OTR) prices without insurance are as follows:
- Lite:RM 106,800
- Prime:RM 116,800
- Prime X:RM 122,800
The 2026 X90 retains the exterior styling of the outgoing model, with 18-inch wheels now standard across the range, preserving its bold and practical family SUV character.

Five familiar colours remain: Quartz Black, Marine Blue, Armour Silver, Snow White and Jet Grey. Cinnamon Brown and Ruby Red have been dropped.

Inside, all variants feature a black interior theme, with trim levels differentiated by material (leatherette / genuine leather) for a clean and premium cabin atmosphere.

The most significant update is the powertrain, as Proton fully retires its three-cylinder engine and 48V mild-hybrid system. The 2026 X90 is now powered by a 1.5T i-GT four-cylinder engine – shared with the updated X50, X70 and S70 – producing 181 PS at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Compared to the previous 1.5T three-cylinder mild hybrid (177 PS +14 PS; 255 Nm +52 Nm), the new engine delivers a 13.7% increase in peak torque, with smoother and more linear power delivery, eliminating the vibration typical of three-cylinder units.
This shift aligns with Proton’s strategy announced in late 2025: all Geely-based models will switch to four-cylinder powertrains from 2026, while older VVT and three-cylinder engines are gradually phased out.
As Proton’s flagship SUV, the 2026 X90’s powertrain refresh and improved equipment directly address Malaysian family buyers’ key demands: smooth performance, practical space and generous features.Officially launched on 11 March with a price range of RM 106,800–122,800, the new model retains its strong value-for-money positioning and will be a strong competitor in the SUV segment.
