Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Toyota Land Cruiser, this legendary lineage revered by off-road enthusiasts worldwide welcomes a groundbreaking new member — the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.

Following its initial preview at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, the model made its official global debut in Thailand. The grand unveiling took place at Toyota ALIVE Bangna on March 21, 2026, priced at 1,269,000 Thai Baht (approximately RM165,000).

As a core strategic model that drives the Toyota Land Cruiser family towards mass-market appeal and lightweight design, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is developed around the core theme of "Freedom & Joy". It perfectly inherits the QDR core values that the brand has upheld for over 75 years.

QDR stands for the three non-negotiable pillars of Quality, Durability and Reliability, which are the foundation of the Toyota Land Cruiser’s dominance in the global off-road market.

Breaking away from the long-standing premium positioning of the Toyota Land Cruiser lineup, this new model is built as an accessible, high-value off-road vehicle for a broader consumer base. This strategic shift further expands the brand's reach beyond its luxury origins, bringing the legendary Land Cruiser experience to a wider audience.

It is also the first Toyota Land Cruiser ever to be mass-produced outside Japan, manufactured primarily at Toyota’s Ban Pho Plant in Thailand, with a local component ratio as high as 84%.

Leveraging Thailand’s mature automotive industry chain, the model achieves lower production costs while maintaining uncompromised vehicle quality, marking a major milestone in Toyota’s global production strategy.

Retro-Functional Design: Short-Wheelbase Body Blends Agility with Ruggedness

The exterior design of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ merges the "PLAYFUL-DICE" concept and functional aesthetics, deeply reviving the adventurous DNA of the iconic 40 Series.

Retaining the signature rugged presence of a hardcore off-roader, the vehicle also boasts a sleek and agile character, precisely targeting single professionals, young families and outdoor enthusiasts.

In terms of dimensions, the new model measures 4,610mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,890mm in height, with a wheelbase of just 2,580mm.

Compared to its popular sibling PPV model Toyota Fortuner, it is 185mm shorter in overall length and 170mm shorter in wheelbase. This compact short-wheelbase layout delivers a tighter turning radius and enhanced off-road agility, significantly improving traversal capability.

The body features extensive chamfered detailing and a streamlined profile, paired with classic Toyota Land Cruiser design cues such as a low beltline and a recessed central hood.

This design not only creates a strong and imposing visual stance but also provides drivers with excellent outward visibility, boosting confidence when tackling challenging terrain.

For practical off-road use, the new model is equipped with three-piece modular front and rear bumpers, which drastically reduce repair costs in the event of minor impacts.

Complemented by a side-opening tailgate, externally mounted full-size spare tire and 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, it exudes an unmistakable classic hardcore off-road identity.

Additionally, engineers have optimized the front and rear overhangs to improve approach and departure angles. Coupled with a 700mm water wading depth, the vehicle effortlessly handles harsh conditions including unpaved roads and muddy tracks.

Utility-Focused Cockpit: Full Suite of Safety and Off-Road Features

The interior adopts a "FUNCTIONAL FUN COCKPIT" design philosophy, ditching unnecessary luxury trimmings and prioritizing practicality and durability above all else.

This minimalist, utility-driven layout is perfectly suited to the high-intensity, dirt-prone environment of off-road driving, balancing robustness and ease of operation.

The cabin features a 12.3-inch central touchscreen display with full support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, catering to infotainment and navigation needs for daily commutes and long-distance trips.

A 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster comes equipped with a inclinometer function, allowing real-time monitoring of vehicle pitch and roll angles. This helps novice off-road drivers track the vehicle’s status with precision and lowers the barrier to entry for challenging terrains.

The steering wheel features a wide-spoke design, effectively absorbing impact forces from rough road surfaces during off-roading and reducing component wear from prolonged off-road use.

Large swathes of the interior are finished in durable, easy-to-clean synthetic leather and composite materials, which can be easily wiped down even when covered in mud and sand, fully adapting to hardcore outdoor usage scenarios.

For flexible space utility, the rear seats support 5-stage sliding adjustment and a 40-degree recline function, allowing flexible tuning of passenger comfort.

The boot offers 765 litres of storage space in standard configuration, expandable to 1,522 litres with the rear seats folded down. It can comfortably accommodate camping gear, off-road equipment and luggage, meeting both family and outdoor adventure needs.

Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite comes as standard across all variants, providing all-round protection for daily driving and off-road excursions.

The system integrates full-speed range DRCC radar cruise control, PCS Pre-Collision Safety System and AHS Adaptive High-beam System, covering safety needs across diverse driving scenarios.

The standout feature is the PVM Panoramic View Monitor, which exclusively offers an Underfloor View function – a true "eye in the sky" for off-road conditions.

When climbing steep slopes or navigating rocky terrain, drivers can clearly see the position of the tires, greatly improving off-road control accuracy and effectively reducing the risk of getting stuck or scraping the vehicle.

Durable Architecture: A Proven Powertrain and Reinforced Chassis

Powering the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is a Euro 6-compliant 2.7L 2TR-FE four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with Dual VVT-i variable valve timing technology.

This powertrain delivers a maximum output of 166PS at 5,200rpm and a peak torque of 245Nm at 4,000rpm, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission proven reliable across global markets.

It offers smooth and linear power delivery, low maintenance costs, and field-proven durability for long-term, high-intensity use.

In terms of fuel compatibility, it runs on Gasohol 91, Gasohol 95 and E20, perfectly matching the fuel supply system across Southeast Asian markets.

Under the skin, the new model shares the IMV ladder-frame chassis platform with the short-wheelbase Toyota Hilux Champ, a classic architecture used across multiple practical Toyota models.

Engineers have comprehensively reinforced the chassis to meet the stringent Toyota Land Cruiser durability standards, adding extra welding points, strengthening the rear side members and rear suspension mounting points to significantly boost overall structural rigidity.

An engine underguard is also added to fully protect critical components such as the engine and gearbox from impact damage during off-roading.

The vehicle also benefits from optimized weight distribution, a lower center of gravity and reduced body roll during cornering, balancing on-road comfort and off-road stability.

The core four-wheel drive system is a part-time 4WD setup, paired with a rear differential lock and 2nd Start mode. It works in tandem with a reinforced suspension setup featuring double-wishbone front suspension and four-link rear suspension.

This combination allows the vehicle to easily escape tough off-road situations while maintaining comfortable on-road driving dynamics, striking a balance between off-road capability and daily usability.

Global Rollout Underway, Southeast Asia as Core Market

Under Toyota’s global strategy, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ built at the Ban Pho Plant in Thailand will follow a dual strategy of local sales and global export.

Thailand’s domestic sales target is set at 5,000 units for the first year, focusing on young outdoor enthusiasts. The model will also be re-exported to Japan within 2026 and shipped to 27 countries worldwide.

Markets including Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America are covered, with Malaysia expected to welcome this affordable hardcore off-roader in the near future.

Furthermore, Toyota has reserved ample modification space from the factory, with dedicated design considerations for off-road enthusiasts’ personalized customization needs.

For the first time, Toyota has partnered with ARB, a renowned Australian off-road accessory manufacturer, to launch official factory modification packages. Four concept styles – off-road, camping, retro and urban – have been developed to further enhance enthusiast driving enjoyment and build a dedicated off-road community ecosystem.

The arrival of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ moves the Toyota Land Cruiser family beyond the premium off-road segment, staying true to the original ethos of the 40 Series: affordable, rugged and capable of going anywhere. With its high value, unwavering reliability and agile off-road performance, it sets a new benchmark in the entry-level hardcore off-road market and fills the gap for accessible rugged off-roaders.

For consumers in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, this model is undoubtedly an all-round choice for outdoor adventures and daily commuting. It offers a wider audience the opportunity to experience the legendary off-road heritage of the Toyota Land Cruiser — a 75-year legacy of excellence — now at a more attainable price point.
