UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), the official distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, has announced its sales performance for March 2026. The company delivered 5,814 units last month, surpassing its sales figures in both January and February. This marks two consecutive months of month-on-month growth. With March results finalized, UMW Toyota's cumulative sales for the first quarter of 2026 now stand at 15,370 units.

Leading the Non-National Segment

Despite intensifying competition in the Malaysian automotive market, UMWT continues to hold its position as the No.1 non-national automotive brand in the country. The company attributes this success to a well-balanced product lineup that delivers everyday usability, strong efficiency, and excellent long-term ownership value — qualities that have earned the continued trust of Malaysian consumers.

According to the latest vehicle registration data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), a total of 8,617 Toyota vehicles were registered in March 2026. This brings the cumulative total for the first quarter of 2026 to 22,208 units. Based on the difference between sales and registration figures, it is estimated that approximately 6,838 units were registered through non-official channels during the first three months of the year.

Arrival of the BEV Trio: bZ4X Lands in Malaysia

UMWT has achieved a significant milestone in its electrification journey by officially introducing three new battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to the Malaysian market this month.

bZ4X: Toyota's global strategic all-electric SUV

Hilux EV: The electric version of the legendary pickup, targeting both commercial and premium lifestyle segments

Urban Cruiser BEV: A compact all-electric SUV designed for modern urban lifestyles

Together with the previously launched Harrier HEV and Vellfire HEV, these new BEV models demonstrate UMW Toyota's "Multi-Pathway Strategy", offering both Hybrid Electric and Battery Electric powertrains to cater to a wide range of customer needs and preferences.

Datuk Ravindran: Balancing Electrification with Economy and Productivity

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasised that Toyota's approach to electrification is grounded in a deep understanding of real-world vehicle usage across different markets. "For  Malaysia,  mobility carries both economic and social importance. Vehicles here support far more than urban commuting. They connect communities across long distances and support industries that rely on dependable transport as an essential tool of productivity," he said.

He added, "Electrified mobility must therefore be introduced at the right time, in ways that genuinely benefit Malaysians and support how people and industries move every day." The transition to lower-emission mobility must be practical and aligned with local needs.
