Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida has confirmed that the next-generation GT-R, codenamed R36, is now under development. While the iconic "Godzilla" is heading toward electrification, the latest news from the brand is sure to bring relief to hardcore JDM enthusiasts.

Richard Candler, Head of Nissan's Global Product Strategy, explicitly stated that a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version is not being considered at this stage. He noted that current battery technology still falls short of the GT-R's demanding standards for extreme performance and track durability.
To balance increasingly strict emission regulations with driving pleasure, hybridization has become the clear path for the R36. This approach allows the car to retain its iconic internal combustion engine (ICE) roar while adding electric assistance for even more explosive torque. Rumours also suggest that the legendary VR38 V6 twin-turbo engine may be retained and further upgraded.

This flagship sports car, carrying over 60 years of performance heritage, is expected to make its official debut before 2030. Nissan aims to keep the legendary "Godzilla" spirit alive by blending its mechanical soul with advanced electrical power.
