Following the local buzz surrounding the C10, Leapmotor has officially launched its range-topping flagship, the Leapmotor D19, in China. As the brand’s largest and most premium SUV to date, the D19 offers both Battery Electric (BEV) and Extended Range (EREV) powertrains, with prices in China starting from approximately RM 145,000 (converted).
While the vehicle is currently a China-exclusive, its future prospects remain a point of interest for Malaysian car enthusiasts, especially since the Stellantis Group has officially taken over Leapmotor’s international operations.

The D19 is the first model based on Leapmotor’s D-platform, featuring the "Universe Realm" design language that gives it a bold and boxy silhouette.
High-Tech Lighting: Equipped with million-pixel projection headlights that not only illuminate the road but can also project "intelligent light carpets" and welcome messages onto the ground.
Flush Side Windows: The vehicle features expensive flush-fitting side glass, which enhances the premium aesthetic and significantly reduces wind noise at high speeds.
Premium Footwear: It comes standard with 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin high-performance silent tyres, offering exceptional value for its segment.

The interior is the highlight of the D19, designed to premium business-class standards that perfectly suit the needs of Malaysian families for long-distance travel:
First-Class Seating: The second row features two independent Zero-Gravity massage seats, providing excellent support and comfort, complemented by foldable tray tables.
Intelligent Constant-Temperature Cooling Box: The cabin is thoughtfully equipped with an on-board refrigerator. In Malaysia’s hot climate, this ensures cold drinks are always available, whether you are on a long-distance balik kampung trip or stuck in city traffic.
Third Row is Not Just for Show: The third row offers ample space and supports one-touch electric folding and seat heating, ensuring comfort for every passenger even when fully loaded with 7 people.
Thoughtful Details: For the convenience of the elderly and children, grab handles are specially designed on the B-pillars, reflecting the flagship's focus on human-centric ergonomics.

Despite its massive size, the D19’s performance is staggering:
Acceleration: The BEV version features a triple-motor system, capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint in the 3-second range.
Chassis Tech: It is equipped with dual-chamber air suspension and CDC electronic damping, allowing for adjustable suspension stiffness. Notably, it supports "Tank Turns" (Pivot Turns), allowing this 5-metre-long giant to maneuver easily in tight spots.
Long Range: The BEV version offers a range of up to 720km, while the EREV version is perhaps more suited for the Malaysian context, providing a 500km pure electric range without any range anxiety.

Leapmotor Malaysia is currently in its early brand-building phase, with the C10 being the first model to enter our market. While a full-size SUV like the D19 occupies a niche segment locally, its starting price in China (approx. RM 150k) is highly competitive. If a Right-Hand Drive (RHD) version is introduced in the future at an estimated price of RM 280k - RM 320k (after taxes), it would undoubtedly be a compelling option for those seeking a large, luxury SUV.
Do you think this flagship SUV would threaten the Kia EV9 or European luxury brands if it came to Malaysia?
