As competition in the compact SUV segment intensifies, the European-market Toyota Yaris Cross has been refreshed for the 2026 model year. Manufactured in France, this B-segment SUV gains subtle aesthetic refinements and the addition of a dynamic GR Sport variant, aimed at solidifying its market-leading position in Europe.

The most significant visual updates for the 2026 Yaris Cross are concentrated at the front.
New Grille: Now features a body-coloured honeycomb pattern, delivering a cleaner and more contemporary look.
Black Accents: The lower apron and flared wheel arches are finished in black, further accentuating its rugged SUV stance.
Lighting & Wheels: New LED headlamps with integrated DRLs are now standard. The Mid+ variant sits on 17-inch wheels, while the High variant steps up to 18-inch alloys.

Under the hood, the updated Yaris Cross retains its 1.5L naturally-aspirated engine paired with a CVT, now offered in two distinct hybrid tunes.
Hybrid 115: Delivers 116 PS and 141 Nm of torque, primarily serving the entry-level Mid variant.
Hybrid 130: Output increased to 130 PS and 185 Nm, coming as standard on the High and GR Sport variants.
Notably, European buyers retain the flexibility to choose between Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configurations
Toyota has focused on improving cabin comfort and environmental sustainability for the 2026 update.
Upgraded Seating: The Mid+ variant now features redesigned seats for superior ergonomic support.
Eco-Conscious Luxury: The High variant introduces "SakuraTouch" upholstery, a plant-derived PVC crafted from recycled materials. Toyota claims this innovative finish reduces CO2 emissions by 95% compared to traditional leather.
Convenience & Safety: Mid+ and higher trims gain ambient lighting and wireless charging, while the High variant adds a powered tailgate and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM).

Inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing, the new GR Sport variant features:
Sporty Aesthetics: The variant comes with unique front and rear bumpers and 18-inch two-tone machined alloy wheels.
Motorsport-Inspired Cabin: Inside, the GR Sport features suede-wrapped sports seats with the GR emblem embossed on the headrests and steering wheel.
Sharper Dynamics: Beyond the looks, the suspension has been retuned to deliver a more responsive and engaging driving experience.

The Toyota Safety Sense suite receives a notable boost, with Parking Support Brake now standard from the Mid+ grade upwards. On the tech front, the Toyota Smart Connect system delivers a seamless digital experience, featuring cloud-based navigation, an intelligent voice agent, and wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.
The 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross is slated to go on sale in Europe later this month. While the Malaysian market eagerly awaits its own DNGA-based version, the European model's premium design language and the addition of the GR Sport package certainly set a high bar for the compact SUV segment globally.
