Great Wall Motor (GWM) is making a bold move in the pickup segment with its flagship model, the GWM Cannon (Poer). The company has officially released the first images of the all-new GWM Cannon Hi4-T and confirmed that this plug-in hybrid pickup will begin pre-sales at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24.
The launch of the Hi4-T not only marks the full electrification transition for the GWM Cannon lineup but also signals strong potential for overseas markets, including Malaysia. It is expected to take on established rivals such as the BYD Shark 6 and Ford Ranger PHEV head-on.

The pre-sale models include both the Passenger Edition and the Commercial Edition. Externally, the Hi4-T version largely retains the bold design language of the current combustion-engine Cannon models, keeping the signature oversized grille and rugged body lines that give it a commanding presence.
The key upgrades are in the details:
Exterior: It features a dedicated charging port and distinctive blue-themed "Hi4-T" badges that highlight its plug-in hybrid identity.
Interior: Drawing from the 2026 updates, the new Cannon Hi4-T is expected to come with the Coffee OS 3 smart cockpit system, complete with a 14.6-inch screen and full wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — features that should appeal strongly to tech-savvy Malaysian users.
Beyond its bold design, the real highlight of the GWM Cannon Hi4-T is its advanced hybrid powertrain. The system combines a 2.0T Miller-cycle engine, a 9HAT transmission, and a P2 motor, delivering impressive specifications:
Combined Max Power: 300 kW (approx. 408 hp)
Combined Max Torque: 750 Nm
Battery Capacity: 37.1 kWh
These figures mean the Cannon Hi4-T's torque output even surpasses most 3.0T V6 diesel pickups currently on the market. More importantly, it offers a pure electric range of 115 km (NEDC). For daily commutes in KL, you can drive it purely as an EV. For long-distance hauling or trips into estates (ladang), the total range can reach up to 1,000 km.

Considering Malaysia's attractive tax incentives for new energy vehicles and the strong positive feedback the Hi4-T architecture has received in Thailand and Australia, we predict the GWM Cannon Hi4-T could potentially arrive in the local market by late 2026 or 2027.
If priced competitively, do you think it has what it takes to challenge the long-standing dominance of the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max?
