Perodua QV-E Production Targets Leaked: 500-Unit Monthly Start; Can Battery Subscription Secure Perodua's EV Dominance?

As Malaysia's electric vehicle market continues to heat up, the national carmaker Perodua has officially revealed its long-awaited ace — the Perodua QV-E. This is more than just another new model launch; it represents the cornerstone of Perodua's electrification journey.

According to industry sources, production of the QV-E is currently in the ramp-up phase, with monthly output maintained at around 500 units. Perodua has set an initial annual sales target of 6,500 units for its debut EV. While this volume may appear modest, it reflects the company's cautious and methodical approach — prioritising supply chain stability and quality control over aggressive production targets.

Prioritizing Value Over Price Wars

Despite the influx of Chinese EV brands pushing prices below the RM100,000 mark, Perodua is sticking to its principles: focusing on long-term value and peace of mind rather than engaging in aggressive price competition.

The brand's core target demographic cares less about 0-100 km/h sprint times and more about practical, real-world priorities:

  • Strong "Balik Kampung" capability
  • Excellent resale value
  • Low maintenance costs and proven battery longevity

Car-Battery Decoupling: Owning an EV for RM80,000

The most disruptive feature of the Perodua QV-E is its BaaS (Battery as a Service) subscription model.

Vehicle Price: Estimated at RM80,000 (excluding battery).

Battery Subscription: RM275 per month (subject to a 9-year contract).

By removing the upfront cost of the battery, Perodua has lowered the entry barrier to EV ownership, bringing it close to the price of a flagship Myvi. This approach reduces loan burdens for first-time buyers and addresses one of the biggest concerns in the market — battery degradation and its impact on resale value. Since the battery remains under Perodua's ownership, it is covered by a lifetime warranty.

Performance & Practicality: The Fastest "National Car"?

Don't let the friendly Perodua badge fool you. The QV-E packs a serious punch.

Output: Front-mounted motor producing 204 PS and 285 Nm.

0-100 km/h: 7.5 seconds, making it the fastest production Perodua model ever.

Range: A 52.5 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL delivers a respectable 445 km range (NEDC), sufficient for interstate travel.

Dimensions: With a 2,680 mm wheelbase, the QV-E offers interior space that rivals many B-segment vehicles, providing a roomier cabin compared to the Axia or Myvi.

Tech & Safety: Simple, Sufficient and Safe

Inside, the QV-E adopts a clean and functional design philosophy. A 10.25-inch infotainment display comes as standard, equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

On the safety front, the QV-E goes beyond the standard ASA (Advanced Safety Assist) suite — which includes autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist — by introducing a Malaysian-first feature: the Child Presence Detection (CPD) system. This thoughtful technology helps prevent tragic accidents by alerting parents if a child is accidentally left behind in the vehicle.

Conclusion: The Next "National Hero" on Wheels?

With a current production rate of 500 units per month, achieving the 6,500-unit annual target will require a strong push in the coming months, especially in resolving early quality-control issues with certain suppliers.

The Perodua QV-E isn't aiming to be at the bleeding edge of technology. Instead, it seeks to be the most "rakyat-friendly" electric vehicle on the market. Its goal is simple: to reassure Malaysians that owning an EV doesn't have to be a psychological or financial burden.

Backed by Perodua's extensive nationwide service network and an official battery exchange program, the QV-E offers genuine peace of mind. If this practical business model succeeds, the QV-E could well become the most important catalyst in Malaysia's journey toward mass EV adoption.
