Jetour T1: The Accessible Off-Roader Expected for a Malaysian Debut

Following Jetour's official entry into Malaysia, the urban-styled Dashing may have led the charge, but it is the brand's rugged off-road series that has truly captured the local imagination. As anticipation for its larger sibling, the Jetour T2, reaches a fever pitch, reports suggest that the more city-friendly Jetour T1 is also slated for a Malaysian release.

If you find the T2 a bit too hardcore or out of budget, this compact boxy SUV might be exactly what you're looking for.

C-Segment Presence, B-Segment Price?

Despite its compact positioning, the T1's proportions are anything but small.

Dimensions (L×W×H): 4706 mm × 1967 mm × 1845 mm

Wheelbase: 2810 mm

Ground Clearance: 200 mm

These figures actually dwarf the Proton X70, offering a wheelbase that outclasses most of its rivals. For Malaysians who value "road presence", the T1 retains that bold, boxy silhouette but adds a layer of refinement — perfect for navigating KL traffic jams.

Interior: Tech-Forward and Feature-Packed

The T1 doesn't skimp on the high-tech "bells and whistles" that have become the hallmark of modern Chinese marques.

  • 15.6-inch Ultra-Large Infotainment: Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for a lag-free experience.
  • Full Digital Instrument Cluster and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.
  • 540° Panoramic View Monitor: Featuring a "transparent chassis" mode — a genuine lifesaver for navigating tight camping spots or uneven terrain.

1.5T Powertrain: Balancing Performance and Road Tax

Based on regional specifications, the Malaysian-spec T1 is expected to feature a 1.5L 4-cylinder Turbocharged engine.

  • Output: Approximately 184 Hp and 290 Nm of torque
  • Transmission: A 7-speed Dual-Clutch (DCT)

This setup is a sweet spot for the local market — offering the benefit of lower annual road tax while providing enough punch for climbs up to Genting or Cameron Highlands.

Safety: 5-Star Rating

The T1's strongest asset might be its safety credentials. According to the latest ASEAN NCAP data, the Jetour T1 has already secured a full 5-star rating, with its overall score slightly edging out even the T2.

Editor's View: Can Pricing Secure a Win?

Market speculation points to a price range between RM130,000 and RM145,000. If accurate, this puts the T1 in direct competition with the top-spec Proton X70 and mid-to-high variants of the Honda HR-V.

Its competitive edge lies in its distinctive "boxy" aesthetic, a superior wheelbase, and class-leading safety. For young families seeking a vehicle that looks rugged but drives with car-like comfort, the T1 is certainly a model worth waiting for.
