When it comes to the pioneer of the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) segment, the BMW X6 — affectionately known as the "Great Black Shark" among Malaysian Bimmers — remains a true icon.
Digital renders of the all-new BMW X6 (codenamed G66) have recently surfaced online, generating huge excitement. According to insiders, production is expected to begin as early as April 2028, with the biggest highlight being the introduction of the first-ever fully electric iX6.

Exterior: Goodbye Big Nostrils, Hello "Angel Wings"
The new X6 adopts a bold design overhaul heavily inspired by BMW's Neue Klasse concept.
- Front Fascia: The controversial oversized kidney grilles have been slimmed down and integrated with slim "Angel Eye" headlights. A signature LED contour light wraps around the grille, creating a futuristic "Angel Wings" lighting signature.
- Iconic Silhouette: The signature fastback coupe roofline is retained, but with cleaner, more streamlined body lines. Hidden door handles are expected to improve aerodynamics, while the pure-electric iX6 will feature a fully closed-off front grille.
- Dimensions: The wheelbase is expected to stretch to nearly 2,970 mm, with an overall length approaching 4.9 metres, giving the new X6 an even lower and more aggressive stance.

Powertrain: ICE Lives On, But the iX6 Is a Monster
The new generation will be built on an updated CLAR platform, supporting both internal combustion engines and full electric powertrains.
- ICE Variants: Expected to continue with powerful straight-six and V8 engines, paired with an 8-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. Power outputs are likely to range from 250kW to 390kW (approx. 340 hp - 530 hp).
- Electric iX6 (G96): The star of the new generation. It will utilise BMW's 6th-generation eDrive technology, with dual-motor versions potentially exceeding 400 kW (approx. 544 hp). With a battery pack likely over 100 kWh, the iX6 could deliver a WLTP range of more than 600 km, supported by 800V ultra-fast charging.
A high-performance X6 M variant is also confirmed to be in development, with both ICE and electric options expected.
