After more than 20 years, Honda has officially revived the legendary Prelude nameplate. This is not merely a nostalgic revival — strong sales figures have proven that the two-door coupe segment is still very much alive and thriving.

According to April 2026 sales data from North America, the all-new Prelude has delivered an impressive performance. It recorded 357 units sold in a single month, successfully surpassing the Subaru BRZ. Year-to-date sales for the first four months have already reached 1,152 units.
For a niche hybrid coupe, these numbers have exceeded industry expectations. In its home market of Japan, although official figures are not fully disclosed, reports indicate that orders have far outpaced production, resulting in long waiting lists. Both performance-focused buyers in North America and discerning enthusiasts in Japan have warmly welcomed this Hybrid Sports Coupe.

The Prelude's successful comeback lies in its precise understanding of modern buyer preferences.

True to Honda's minimalist philosophy, the Prelude features a clean and driver-focused cabin with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment system with Google Built-in. Physical buttons are retained for key functions. While it uses a 2+2 seating layout, the rear is best suited for occasional use or luggage — perfectly aligned with its target audience who prioritise driving enjoyment and individuality over practicality.

Malaysian Honda fans have reason to be excited. Honda Malaysia has confirmed that the Prelude will officially launch in Malaysia soon. The model was previously showcased locally, and selected dealers have already begun accepting bookings. The official launch is expected as early as Q2 2026.

In an era dominated by SUVs and EVs, Honda's decision to revive an emotional, driver-focused sports coupe like the Prelude is both bold and refreshing.
If priced between RM230,000 and RM260,000 (considering the current positioning of the Civic RS e:HEV), the Prelude's blend of style, efficiency, and engaging dynamics could make it a new hero car for Malaysian enthusiasts.
Honda fans, are you ready to open your wallets?
