GWM Malaysia has just launched the new 2026 GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV in Malaysia. The new hybrid MPV joins the existing plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version introduced in January, following the opening of bookings in October.

The 2026 GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is priced at RM 249,800.

Like the PHEV variant, the G9 Hi4 HEV is locally assembled (CKD) at EP Manufacturing Berhad’s (EPMB) plant in Melaka.
The existing G9 Hi4 PHEV is currently listed at RM 269,800, marking an additional RM 20,000. The addition of the HEV gives buyers another powertrain option, particularly those without convenient access to charging at home or work.

The GWM Wey G9 HEV features a large chrome grille up front, flanked by projector LED headlights. The grille also houses the front camera and millimetre-wave radar.
Our Malaysian-spec HEV is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/50R18 tyres - mirroring the PHEV vairant.

At the rear, there’s a full-width LED tail light with vertical light bars at each corner, along with chrome trim on the lower bumper. The only discerning difference between the PHEV and the new HEV variant is the lack of the charging port on the right-side of the car and the HEV emblem.

Like its PHEV sibling, the HEV measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,985 mm wide, and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase.
Colour options include [CONFIRMED EXTERIOR COLOURS].

Inside, the G9 offers seven seats in a 2+2+3 configuration, with Nappa leather upholstery. The second row features zero-gravity seats with power sliding, ventilation and 10-point massage.

That said, the G9 HEV makes do without the PHEV sibling's refridgerator. In its place is a storage compartment.

Both the second- and third-row seats sit on sliding tracks, allowing owners to adjust passenger and luggage space as needed.

Up front, the driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. A 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with audio handled by a 21-speaker sound system.

Other cabin features include a 50W wireless charger, tri-zone automatic air-conditioning, active noise cancellation and a digital rear-view mirror.

Powering the 2026 GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is a petrol-electric hybrid system comprising a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors, paired with a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
Combined system output stands at 263 kW (358 PS) and 782 Nm. As the Hi4 name suggests, the MPV features GWM’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD system.

The electric motors are supported by a 1.67-kWh battery pack. Being a conventional hybrid, the G9 HEV does not require external charging, with the battery replenished through the hybrid system and regenerative braking.
For comparison, the existing G9 PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a four-speed DHT. Combined output is rated at 325 kW (442 PS) and 642 Nm, giving the HEV less peak power but a higher quoted torque figure.
