July 2026 Malaysia Car Sales: Up 9.7% MoM compared to June, Perodua and Toyota drive growth

Malaysia's automotive market recorded 80,030 vehicle registrations in July 2026, representing a 9.7% increase from the 72,943 units registered in June.

The month-on-month (MoM) improvement was driven primarily by stronger performances from Perodua, Proton, and Toyota, with all three brands recording four-digit increases in registrations.

Perodua remained the biggest contributor to the market's growth, with registrations rising from 27,517 units in June to 31,842 units in July.

This represents an increase of 4,325 units or 15.7%, giving Perodua almost 40% of the total market for the month.

Proton and Toyota also record strong growth

Proton maintained second place in the brand rankings, with registrations increasing from 15,450 units in June to 17,018 units in July.

The national automaker recorded an additional 1,568 units, representing a 10.1% month-on-month (MoM) increase.

Toyota recorded an even stronger percentage gain, with registrations climbing from 9,705 units in June to 11,822 units in July.

The Japanese marque's sales increased by 2,117 units or 21.8%, making Toyota one of the biggest contributors to the overall market's growth.

The three brands combined added 8,010 registrations compared with June, accounting for more than the entire 7,087-unit increase in the overall market.

Honda records almost 15% decline

Not every major brand benefited from the stronger July market.

Honda saw registrations fall from 6,297 units in June to 5,369 units in July, representing a decline of 928 units or 14.7%.

Mazda also recorded a decline, with sales falling 15.1% from 1,210 units to 1,027 units.

Tesla saw one of the sharpest declines among the major brands, with registrations dropping from 935 units in June to 605 units in July — a 35.3% decrease.

Despite these declines, the stronger performances from the country's largest-volume brands were sufficient to push the overall market substantially higher.

Bezza remains Malaysia's best-selling car

At model level, the Perodua Bezza continued to lead the market, with its registrations rising from 7,998 units in June to 9,821 units in July.

The increase of 1,823 units represents a 22.8% month-on-month (MoM) improvement.

The Proton Saga remained in second place, with sales increasing from 7,000 units to 7,814 units, while the Perodua Axia climbed from 5,970 units to 7,154 units.

The Perodua Myvi also recorded a smaller increase, from 5,218 units to 5,472 units.

One of the biggest changes in the July model rankings came from the Proton eMas 5.

The affordable electric hatchback recorded 2,402 units in July, compared with 1,309 units in June. This represents an increase of 1,093 units or 83.5%.

As a result, the eMas 5 climbed into sixth place in the overall model rankings, up from outside the top 10 in June.

The model also overtook the Honda City, Toyota Hilux, Perodua Traz and Toyota Vios to become one of Malaysia's top-10 best-selling models for the month.

Honda City takes the biggest hit among top models

While the market expanded in July, the Honda City experienced a significant decline.

Registrations fell from 3,880 units in June to 2,362 units in July, a drop of 1,518 units or 39.1%.

The decline pushed the City from fifth place in June to seventh place in July.

In contrast, the Toyota Hilux recorded a strong improvement, climbing from 1,741 units in June to 2,293 units in July, an increase of 552 units or 31.7%.

The Perodua Traz also gained momentum, rising from 1,904 units to 2,244 units.

EV registrations grow faster than overall market

Electric vehicle registrations also increased in July, although the segment remained relatively small compared with the overall market.

A total of 6,937 electric vehicles were registered in July, up from 6,215 units in June.

This represents an increase of 722 units or 11.6%, slightly ahead of the overall market's 9.7% growth.

The biggest contributor was once again the Proton eMas 5, with its registrations jumping by 83.5% month-on-month (MoM).

Meanwhile, petrol-hybrid registrations remained largely unchanged, falling marginally from 5,646 units in June to 5,621 units in July, a decline of just 0.4%.

July market growth led by Malaysia's biggest brands

Overall, July's sales figures point to a broad improvement in Malaysia's automotive market, but the growth was concentrated among several high-volume brands.

Perodua alone contributed more than 4,300 additional registrations compared with June, while Toyota added more than 2,100 units and Proton another 1,500 units.

At the model level, the Bezza, Axia and eMas 5 were among the biggest gainers, while the Honda City experienced the largest decline among the top 10 models.

With total registrations now reaching 80,030 units in July, the market recorded its strongest monthly performance in the January-July 2026 dataset.
