Perodua remained overwhelmingly dominant in Malaysia’s automotive market in July 2026, recording 31,842 vehicle registrations during the month.

The figure represents approximately 39.8% of total vehicle registrations, putting Perodua well ahead of its closest rival.

Proton ranked second with 17,018 units, giving the national automaker an estimated 21.3% share of the market.

Combined, Perodua and Proton accounted for 48,860 registrations, equivalent to approximately 61.1% of all vehicles registered in Malaysia during July.

Toyota maintains third place

Toyota remained firmly in third position, registering 11,822 vehicles in July.

The Japanese marque accounted for approximately 14.8% of the overall market, maintaining a sizeable lead over fourth-placed Honda, which recorded 5,369 units.

Toyota's performance also means that the top three brands alone accounted for more than three-quarters of the monthly market.

Chery Group leads the Chinese brands

Among the Chinese automakers, Chery emerged as the strongest performer outside the top four, recording 2,588 units in July. This figure combines the sales of Chery Auto, iCaur, as well as Omoda|Jaecoo.

Chery's performance placed it fifth overall in the brand rankings, ahead of BYD and Jetour.

BYD registered 1,226 units, while Jetour recorded 1,216 units, with just 10 units separating the two brands.

The extremely close result highlights the increasingly competitive nature of the Chinese automotive market in Malaysia, with several brands now competing for relatively similar volumes.
