Not a Toyota Alphard, second-generation Denza D9 named official vehicle for APEC 2026

The second-generation Denza D9 has been selected as an official vehicle for the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, with the first batch of vehicles handed over at a ceremony held by Denza today.

The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will take place in Shenzhen, China, in November 2026. The D9 will be used to transport visiting dignitaries and delegates during the event.

Pricing and exterior

The second-generation D9 is available in six variants in China, priced from RMB 359,800 to RMB 459,800 (approximately RM 223k to RM 285k).

Denza has kept the D9's familiar π-Motion front-end design, while giving the grille a more layered appearance. The result retains the formal look expected of an executive MPV, with more contemporary styling details.

The D9 measures 5,250 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Its long body and gently sloping roofline help maximise cabin space.

At the rear, full-width LED taillights with a feather-arrow design give the D9 a distinctive lighting signature and make the vehicle appear wider.

Equipment

Inside, the D9 combines a T-shaped dashboard with a new column-mounted gear selector. Its headline feature is support for up to 11 interconnected screens, including a 15.6-inch display for the front passenger, a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen for rear passengers and 13-inch magnetic ecosystem displays.

The latest AI-powered cockpit supports facial recognition for its welcome function, voice commands that can recognise less precise phrasing, and integration with third-party products.

Comfort equipment is available across all three rows. The front and rear seats feature memory settings, heating, ventilation and 10-point massage. Third-row passengers also get sunshades and four-way power adjustment, along with heating and ventilation.

Other features include a 7.5-litre refrigerator with heating and cooling functions, a 30-speaker Devialet sound system with speakers built into the driver's headrest, and a Privacy Sound Shield designed to keep conversations within the cabin.

Driver assistance and ride comfort

Every version of the new D9 comes with BYD's God's Eye 5.0 advanced driver assistance system. Its hardware includes LiDAR, 4D millimetre-wave radar and an in-house-developed central computing platform.

The safety equipment also includes stability control designed to help manage high-speed tyre blowouts and crosswinds.

For ride comfort, Denza has fitted a new-generation suspension system with the dual-valve DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system. An intelligent anti-motion-sickness system is also included to help make journeys more comfortable.

Powertrain

Buyers in China can choose between plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions of the second-generation D9.

Plug-in hybrid

The PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors. The engine produces up to 115kW, while the front and rear motors deliver 200kW and 45kW respectively.

The system uses BYD's second-generation Blade Battery with flash-charging technology. Depending on the variant, the claimed CLTC EV range is 350–401km. With a full tank and a fully charged battery, the combined range is quoted at 1,480–1,521km.

Fully electric

The EV version is available with a single front motor or dual-motor all-wheel drive. Both configurations use the second-generation Blade Battery and support flash charging.

Claimed CLTC range stands at 750–800km, depending on the variant.
