Ora 5 Sedan revealed: Looks like a Saga MC3, but it's not

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released the latest batch of vehicle filings, revealing the upcoming Ora 5 Sedan.

As the first sedan model in the Ora 5 lineup, the new model carries over the series' signature rounded styling while offering three powertrain options — battery electric (EV), hybrid (HEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE).

At first glance, the new sedan may remind some Malaysian drivers of the familiar Proton Saga MC3 with its rounded body lines and approachable family-car proportions.

However, the Ora 5 Sedan is noticeably larger in both size and positioning, and it is certainly not an electric version of the Saga.

The Ora 5 Sedan continues the brand's retro-style approach with smooth and rounded surfaces.

The most recognisable feature is the pair of circular LED headlights at the front, paired with a slim grille design and sporty front bumper. The result is a look that remains highly distinctive while maintaining a friendly and practical character.

Interestingly, the three powertrain variants share almost identical exterior designs. The main difference comes down to the rear badges, which identify whether the vehicle is the EV, HEV or petrol version.

In terms of dimensions, the Ora 5 Sedan measures 4,758 mm long, 1,833 mm (or 1,844 mm) wide and 1,626 mm tall, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase.

Compared with the hatchback version, the sedan gains additional length and wheelbase, which should translate into improved rear-seat legroom and greater practicality. Boot capacity is rated at 317 litres.

Three powertrain options

The Ora 5 Sedan will be available with a wide range of powertrain choices, covering traditional petrol buyers as well as those looking for electrified options.

Petrol version

The ICE variant uses GWM's 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, producing up to 135 kW (184 PS) and 275 Nm of torque.

Hybrid version

The HEV model adopts GWM's latest fifth-generation Hi4 intelligent hybrid technology, paired with a dedicated 1.5-litre turbo hybrid engine producing 112 kW. The system delivers a combined output of 166 kW (226 PS) and 476 Nm of torque.

Electric version

The EV variant uses SVOLT Energy Technology's 14-in-1 integrated intelligent electric drive system, with the electric motor producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 260 Nm of torque.

Could the Ora 5 Sedan come to Malaysia?

With GWM Malaysia continuing to expand its local line-up, the Ora 5 Sedan could become another potential addition to the brand's Malaysian portfolio.

GWM Malaysia recorded strong growth in the first half of the year, with deliveries increasing 42.4% year on year to 3,166 units. The company is also preparing to introduce more electrified models here, including the Ora 5 HEV, in the second half of the year.

If introduced locally, the Ora 5 Sedan would give Malaysian buyers another option in the growing electrified sedan market, offering a combination of distinctive styling, multiple powertrain choices and practical dimensions.
