Proton eMas claims over 60% of Malaysia’s EV market, 27,403 domestic registrations through August

Proton eMas accounted for more than 60% of Malaysia’s electric vehicle registrations in the first eight months of 2026, according to distributor PRO-NET.

In other words, roughly six in every ten EVs registered locally during that period were Proton eMas models.

Across its fully electric and plug-in hybrid line-up, the brand recorded 27,403 domestic registrations between January and August 2026. Including exports, PRO-NET reports a total of 27,856 registrations.

The latest figures follow a record August, when Proton eMas surpassed 6,000 registrations in a single month for the first time.

eMas 5 leads the sales charge

The Proton eMas 5 accounted for the bulk of the brand’s year-to-date registrations, with the latest model breakdown as follows:

• Proton eMas 5: 18,014 units, including domestic and export registrations
• Proton eMas 7: 4,278 units, including domestic and export registrations
• Proton eMas 7 PHEV: 5,562 domestic registrations

According to PRO-NET, the eMas 5 remains Malaysia’s best-selling EV, while the eMas 7 leads the electric SUV segment. The eMas 7 PHEV, meanwhile, tops the plug-in hybrid segment.

Across the broader electrified vehicle market, or xEV category, Proton eMas holds a 32.5% share.

All Proton eMas models now locally assembled

Beyond the registration figures, PRO-NET confirmed that all Proton eMas models and variants are now locally assembled (CKD) at Proton’s EV plant in Tanjong Malim’s Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV).

The move supports local manufacturing and the development of Malaysia’s EV supply chain, alongside the brand’s expanding sales and aftersales network.

Proton eMas currently operates 60 dealerships, 46 authorised service centres and 10 body and paint facilities nationwide.

According to PRO-NET, availability of common spare parts across its authorised network stands at 98.8%, helping to reduce vehicle downtime.

Residential charging at RM 0.63/kWh until December

For owners living in high-rise residences, Proton eMas is offering a special charging rate of RM 0.63/kWh until 31 December 2026.

The offer covers more than 1,500 charging points at over 500 participating high-rise residences nationwide, through collaborations with ChargeSini, JomCharge, Charge+, Time Charge N Go and RExharge.

As for public charging, the brand’s Integrated Live Charging Map provides access to more than 4,700 charging points nationwide. PRO-NET says this covers over 90% of Malaysia’s public charging infrastructure.

The map is accessible through Proton eMas vehicles and the Proton eMas app.

Expanding local EV aftersales expertise

PRO-NET is also expanding its pool of trained EV technicians. In August 2026, 37 technicians from 25 authorised dealerships achieved Level 2 EV certification with TVETMARA.

Further training is provided through the eMas Certified Technician Programme and eMas Certified Service Advisor Programme. The inaugural eMas Electrified Excellence Competition also brings together technicians and service advisors from 45 dealerships nationwide.

PRO-NET chief executive officer Zhang Qiang said the company’s priorities extend beyond vehicle sales to charging access, aftersales support, local talent and localisation.

These efforts support Malaysia’s wider electrification plans under the National Energy Transition Roadmap and Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint.
