Proton posts second-best monthly sales of 2026 with 18,442 units in July, eMas and exports hit record highs

Proton recorded its second-strongest monthly sales performance of 2026 in July after delivering 18,442 vehicles, representing a 14.9% increase over June. The figure includes domestic sales, exports, as well as deliveries from the Proton eMas and smart brands.

The national carmaker has now sold 118,788 vehicles during the first seven months of 2026, up 38.7% year-on-year (YoY). Based on the forecast Total Industry Volume (TIV), Proton expects to end July with a 25.8% year-to-date (YTD) market share, maintaining its position as one of Malaysia's leading automotive brands.

The Proton Saga continued to lead the company's sales chart with 7,814 units delivered in July, bringing cumulative sales to 52,189 units. The A-segment sedan remains on track for another record-breaking year.

The Proton S70 retained its position as Malaysia's best-selling C-segment sedan after recording 2,857 units, increasing YTD sales to 15,689 units.

Meanwhile, the Proton X50 remained the country's best-selling SUV and continued to lead the B-segment SUV market with 2,291 units sold during the month. Total deliveries now stand at 17,636 units for 2026.

The Proton X90 also maintained its leadership in the seven-seater D-segment SUV segment, posting 441 units in July, its second-highest monthly sales performance this year.

Commenting on the results, Proton Deputy CEO Dato' Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa said the company's latest performance reflects continued customer confidence in its products, supported by ongoing improvements in product quality, localisation, manufacturing and aftersales services.

Proton's sales are expected to climb later this year with the introduction of the AMA2-based Proton Saga Cross.

Combined sales of the eMas 5, eMas 7 and eMas 7 PHEV reached 3,888 units in July, pushing cumulative deliveries for 2026 to 21,808 units.

The Proton eMas 5 remained Malaysia's best-selling electric vehicle with 13,196 units sold YTD, while the eMas 7 PHEV continued to lead the plug-in hybrid segment with 4,946 units delivered. Sales of the fully electric eMas 7 stood at 3,666 units.

All three electrified models are assembled at Proton's New Energy Vehicle (NEV) plant in Tanjung Malim, with key components such as the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) also produced locally at the company's Advanced Powertrain Hub.

PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang said the continued growth of the Proton eMas brand reflects increasing consumer acceptance of electrified vehicles, supported by initiatives including the Proton eMas SuperApp, an expanding dealer network and collaboration with charging infrastructure partners.

Export volume reaches highest level in more than 13 years

Proton's export business also reached a significant milestone in July after shipping 1,398 vehicles, marking its highest monthly export volume since March 2013.

The increase was driven by stronger overseas demand as well as regional production activities involving Proton-Geely collaborative models assembled at the Tanjung Malim plant for selected export markets.

According to Proton, increasing export volumes are expected to improve plant utilisation while supporting the development of the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), strengthening Malaysia's automotive supply chain and creating additional opportunities for local component suppliers.

Abdul Rashid added that exports are expected to play an increasingly important role in Proton's long-term growth strategy alongside its domestic business.
