Suzuki e Vitara vs Zeekr X Premium RWD: Comparing an RM188k Japanese EV with an RM159k Chinese competitor

One is the first all-electric offering from a Japanese marque, brought in as a limited-run CBU import priced at RM188,000. The other is a premium creation from a rising Chinese EV brand, boasting rear-wheel drive, a 5.3-second 0-100 km/h sprint, and an onboard heating/cooling fridge, all for RM158,800.

That leaves a price difference of RM29,200. Interestingly, the pricier model delivers only about half the output of its more affordable rival.

The Suzuki e Vitara is the mechanical twin to the Toyota Urban Cruiser, but undercuts it by RM10,000. It features a 61.1 kWh LFP battery, with a front-mounted electric motor putting out 172 hp and 193 Nm, yielding a WLTP-rated range of 426 km and a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.7 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Zeekr X Premium RWD packs a 61 kWh battery, but its motor churns out a hefty 340 PS (250 kW) and 373 Nm, delivering a 445 km WLTP range and a 5.3-second 0-100 km/h sprint.

With virtually identical battery capacities, Zeekr extracts an extra 19 km of range and nearly double the output. So, what exactly does that extra RM29,200 get you?

Note: The Zeekr X's official DC fast charging rating is 150 kW (though real-world tests show it can peak close to 200 kW). Both models come equipped with Level 2 ADAS suites.

Performance

The e Vitara delivers 172 hp and 193 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. In the 2026 EV landscape, this level of output falls squarely into the "adequate" category. It handles urban commutes and highway cruising effortlessly, but don't expect any head-pinning acceleration.

The Zeekr X Premium RWD puts down 340 PS and 373 Nm, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds. That gives it an extra 168 PS and 180 Nm over the e Vitara. Step on the accelerator and you are instantly shoved back into your seat.

This is where their driving characters part ways. The e Vitara is a sensible A-to-B runabout designed to keep things fuss-free, while the Zeekr X is the sort of car that tempts you to take the long way home.

Range and Charging

The 19 km difference between the e Vitara's 426 km WLTP range and the Zeekr X's 445 km is negligible in daily driving. The real differentiator, however, lies in charging speeds.

The e Vitara caps out at a DC fast charging rate of 67 kW, requiring roughly 44 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge. On AC power, it draws 7 kW, taking around 6.5 to 9 hours for a 10% to 100% replenish.

In contrast, the Zeekr X is rated at 150 kW DC (peaking near 200 kW in practice), slashing the 10% to 80% charge time to just 30 minutes. Its onboard 11 kW AC charger also achieves a full charge in roughly 7.5 hours.

A 14-minute gap on DC fast chargers means the difference between a quick pit stop and waiting around for an extra cup of coffee during interstate drives. On home AC charging, Zeekr's 11 kW capability also proves noticeably more efficient than the e Vitara's 7 kW unit.

Dimensions and Practicality

The e Vitara measures 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, sitting on a 2,700 mm wheelbase with 306 litres of boot space. The Zeekr X measures 4,432 mm long, 1,836 mm wide, and 1,566 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase and 404 litres of cargo volume.

The Zeekr is 157 mm longer, 36 mm wider, has 50 mm more wheelbase, and adds 98 litres more luggage capacity. The e Vitara stands 69 mm taller, offering airier headroom and a more commanding, traditional SUV seating position.

The Zeekr takes after a high-riding hatchback, featuring a lower hip point and a sportier driving posture.

There is no outright winner when it comes to interior packaging. The e Vitara's 306-litre boot is on the tighter side for this segment; if you regularly load bulky items, this figure will make you think twice. While the Zeekr's 404-litre boot is more practical, its rear headroom isn't quite as generous as the boxier Suzuki.

Equipment

The e Vitara's kit list is a masterclass in Japanese pragmatism: AEB, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a 360-degree camera system, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an Infinity sound system.

Safety and basic convenience are well covered, though nothing here truly dazzles.

The Zeekr X Premium RWD goes all-in on novelty and tech: power-actuated front doors with B-pillar buttons, an exterior B-pillar charging status display, a 5.7-litre heating/cooling fridge (-6°C to 50°C), a 13-speaker Yamaha premium audio system, 50W wireless charging, and a massive 24.3-inch AR Head-Up Display.

These are lifestyle touches you rarely see on Japanese competitors, giving the Zeekr X an unmistakable high-tech appeal.

Both models come standard with Level 2 ADAS and 7 airbags. The e Vitara is more conservative yet intuitive, whereas the Zeekr X offers a gadget-laden cabin that may require a slight learning curve.

Warranty and Aftersales

Suzuki backs the e Vitara with a 5-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, a 5-year/100,000 km BEV component warranty, and an 8-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty.

The Zeekr X matches the 8-year/160,000 km battery coverage, but caps its vehicle warranty at 5 years/150,000 km. Suzuki's unlimited-mileage warranty is undeniably friendlier for high-mileage drivers.

On the aftersales front, Suzuki operates 14 sales dealerships and 13 service centres nationwide. Zeekr currently has 11 outlets, with plans to expand to 18 by the end of 2026.

Suzuki's footprint is already well established, while Zeekr's network is actively growing. If you are based in the Klang Valley or major cities, convenience is largely on par; but in the eastern region or outlying towns, Suzuki's existing coverage offers greater peace of mind.

Verdict

Choose the Suzuki e Vitara if:

You trust Japanese build quality and durability, prefer straightforward usability over flashy gadgets, and don't demand thrilling performance.

You value a mature service network and the reassurance of an unlimited-mileage warranty, and you are happy to pay an extra RM29,200 for that peace of mind. The e Vitara won't quicken your pulse, but it won't give you sleepless nights either.

Choose the Zeekr X Premium RWD if:

You want significantly punchier performance, faster charging turnaround, a larger boot, and cutting-edge tech that Japanese rivals simply don't offer.

You are comfortable growing alongside a newer brand's expanding support network. Sparing that RM29,200 price premium alone is enough to cover years of EV charging. The Zeekr X is a car that puts a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel.

The price difference between the two is substantial—enough to buy a brand-new Perodua Bezza outright. With the e Vitara, your money buys brand heritage and aftersales certainty; with the Zeekr X, it buys raw performance and cutting-edge tech.

Ultimately, where your money goes depends on what you fear more: living with a car that lacks pace, or the potential hassle of newer aftersales support.
