Third-generation BYD Qin PLUS gets new Island Blue paint, with a claimed range of over 2,290 km

BYD has released official images of the third-generation Qin PLUS in a new Island Blue colour. The updated model is larger than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase of 2,800 mm. It is expected to launch in China in late October.

Exterior

The third-generation Qin PLUS has a wider-looking front end with cleaner lines.

From the side, its sloping roofline gives it a sleek fastback profile, while the wider rear makes the car look more substantial. At the back, a full-width taillight design inspired by the traditional Chinese knot gives the car a distinctive look.

The new Island Blue paintwork is inspired by the clear, shimmering surface of the sea in the breeze.

The car has a long, wide body and a low-slung stance. Its proportions are designed not only to give it a modern look but also to reduce aerodynamic drag. A rising character line runs along the side, from the front headlights to the rear, adding a sense of movement to the profile.

The new Qin PLUS measures 4,840 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,498 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. These larger dimensions should also translate into more cabin space.

Design updates

The rear end is wider and more rounded than before, complementing the minimalist front design. Clean surfaces and lines give the back of the car a distinctive appearance.

The Qin family's signature flowing Chinese knot taillights remain, with intersecting light strips that create a layered effect. The new model also gets larger 17-inch sporty alloy wheels, which give it a more dynamic look.

Fuel economy and range

BYD says the third-generation Qin PLUS will set new benchmarks in its class for fuel economy and driving range.

  • Fuel consumption: With the battery depleted, fuel consumption is as low as 2.58L/100km, which BYD claims is the lowest in its class.
  • Electric range: The EV range increases to 220 km, claimed to be the longest among PHEVs in its class.
  • Combined range: With a full tank and a fully charged battery, the car has a claimed combined range of more than 2,290 km.

BYD Qin PLUS vs Seal 6

The BYD Seal 6, which is already available in Malaysia, is based on the Qin L, not the Qin PLUS.

Both are C-segment sedans, but they occupy different positions in the line-up. The Qin PLUS is aimed at buyers looking for an affordable, value-focused family sedan. The Qin L, sold in Malaysia as the Seal 6, is larger and sits slightly higher in the range, with more room for passengers.
