Local assembly (CKD) of the Proton e.Mas 5 is set to begin soon, as the company initiates a RM 37 million expansion of its electrified vehicle assembly plant at the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim.
The expansion will allow the plant's production capacity to increase to 42,000 units, just over double the current rate of 20,000 cars annually. This round of upgrades also seeks to position Tanjong Malim as a regional hub for Geely Group's electrified vehicles.

Launched last September at a tune of RM 82 million, the plant sits on a 5.57-acre site within Proton's Tanjong Malim complex. In its current state, the facility employs 391 staff, with the carmaker saying more are to be employed once upgrades are complete.
According to the automaker, the decision to fast-track its factory expansion plans follows the market reception of the e.Mas 5, which registered 8,472 deliveries in the first four months of 2026 to become the highest-selling electric vehicle model in the country.
When combined with the volumes of the e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV, total sales for the brand's electrified lineup reached 11,617 units between January and April, marking a 329% growth compared to the corresponding period last year.
