Denza, the premium electric vehicle brand under BYD, is poised to make a significant statement on the global stage tomorrow, July 9, at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom. The Denza Z, which was initially teased as a concept at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show and later shown as a production-ready Spider in Beijing earlier this year, will finally make its dynamic debut. Teasers released ahead of the event confirm that the electric supercar will be presented in a track-biased 'Track Edition' guise, likely to tackle the iconic Sussex hillclimb driven by Lord March himself.

From our perspective in Malaysia, this debut is particularly noteworthy as it marks a strong push by Chinese manufacturers into the high-performance, luxury EV segment that has traditionally been dominated by European marques. The Denza Z is not merely a show car anymore; it is a production-ready machine that promises to rewrite the rules for electric supercars.

While the teaser images released by Denza are deliberately shadowy, they confirm that the Z’s design language remains largely unchanged from the concept and the Spider variant. The car features sweptback LED headlights, pronounced muscular haunches over the rear wheels, and distinctive quad diamond-shaped taillights. However, the Track Edition brings a host of aerodynamic and visual enhancements. These include a much more aggressive front splitter, a massive fixed rear wing, vented front fenders, and large 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tyres. The overall silhouette is that of a low-slung, mid-engined supercar, but with a pure-electric powertrain.

Although interior details are yet to be officially released for the Track Edition, we anticipate a cabin closely resembling the Spider. Expect a racy, three-spoke steering wheel equipped with a dedicated Boost Mode button, a massive infotainment touchscreen, a bridge-style centre console with a Qi wireless charger and a cupholder. The Spider is a four-seater, but given the track focus and the presence of a roll cage and racing seats in the concept, the Track Edition is expected to be strictly a two-seater.

The real headline, however, is the staggering performance figures. According to filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and reported by Autohome, the Denza Z's powertrain has been significantly upgraded from initial projections. Like the larger Z9GT sedan, the Z employs a triple-motor all-wheel-drive setup. But in this application, total system output has been boosted to a frankly ridiculous 1,604 PS (1,180 kW). This figure surpasses even the standard Yangwang U9, BYD's own ultra-luxury supercar brand.

This monumental power output is claimed to propel the Denza Z from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h. More impressively, the car will likely feature BYD’s latest second-generation Blade LFP battery, which supports the brand's groundbreaking 1,500 kW DC Flash Charging technology. This would allow the battery to be topped up from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. While such charging speeds require compatible infrastructure that is not yet ubiquitous in Malaysia, it sets a new benchmark for what is possible in the EV space globally.

Beyond raw speed and charging capability, the Denza Z will also debut a new DiSus-M magnetorheological damper system, offering near-instantaneous adaptive suspension control. The triple-motor setup also enables a 'tank turn' or on-the-spot rotation feature, allowing the car to spin 360 degrees in place. This is a party trick that has been demonstrated by other high-end EVs from China, but it remains a crowd-pleaser and a testament to the advanced vectoring capabilities of the powertrain.
As Malaysian enthusiasts, the arrival of the Denza Z at Goodwood is a clear signal that the global automotive landscape is shifting. With prices expected to start well above RM 800,000 for the standard version and potentially exceeding RM 1.2 million for the Track Edition, this is not a car for the masses. However, it is a halo model that demonstrates the technological firepower now available from the East. We will be watching the live stream from Goodwood intently to bring you the first on-track impressions of what could be the most potent production EV to ever tackle the hillclimb.
