The Perodua Bezza ended the first half of 2026 as Malaysia’s most-registered passenger vehicle, according to JPJ registration data for January to June, overtaking the Proton Saga in a market still led by affordable national nameplates.

The Bezza accumulated 47,463 registrations over the six-month period, giving it a margin of 3,229 units over the Saga, which closed the half-year with 44,234 registrations.

Together, the two entry-level sedans accounted for 91,697 registrations, a figure that underlines how important compact and budget-friendly cars remain even as SUVs and electrified models gain visibility in the market.

Perodua’s strength was not limited to the Bezza. The brand placed four models in the national top ten, with the Axia taking third place on 36,910 units and the Myvi following in fourth with 29,112 registrations.

The Alza also delivered a strong showing in fifth place with 19,504 registrations, while the Perodua Traz and Ativa added 10,753 and 10,110 units respectively to the brand’s half-year total.

Proton remained Perodua’s nearest competitor and posted notable results of its own. The X50 was the country’s top-selling SUV for the period with 13,646 registrations, while the S70 recorded 12,832 units.

Proton’s newly introduced eMas 5 also made a strong start, with 10,665 registrations in its debut half-year. That was enough for it to become Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle and one of the ten most-registered passenger vehicles overall.

At brand level, Perodua registered 158,295 vehicles in H1 2026, equal to 38.7% of all vehicles registered in Malaysia during the period. Proton followed with 98,010 units and a 24.0% share, meaning the two local marques together accounted for almost 63% of total registrations.

The overall picture from H1 2026 points to the same buying priorities that have long shaped Malaysia’s new-car market: affordability, practicality and value. Even with more SUVs and EVs entering showrooms, the Bezza, Saga, Axia and Myvi continue to form the backbone of demand.
