2026 Proton S70 Lite and Prime launched in Malaysia, 120 PS, CVT, 6 airbags, from RM 56,800*

It's finally official. Proton has launched the entry-level Proton S70 variants in Malaysia, shortly after bookings were opened in early-September. 

Overview

Proton is broadening the S70’s appeal with two new naturally-aspirated variants, the 2026 Proton S70 1.5 Lite and 1.5 Prime. 

Prices start from:

•  2026 Proton S70 Lite: RM 56,800
• 2026 Proton S70 Prime: RM 59,800

In-line with recently-launched Proton models, the 2026 Proton S70 Lite and Prime can also be had with a RM 3,000 special launch rebate. 

Without the rebate, the new model is priced as follow:

•  2026 Proton S70 Lite: RM 59,800
• 2026 Proton S70 Prime: RM 62,800

The biggest change lies under the bonnet, where a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). There are also differences in exterior trim and cabin equipment, although both variants retain a useful selection of convenience and safety features.

Exterior

The 2026 Proton S70 Lite and Prime retains the familiar S70 profile, with a black grille and the omission of the full-width rear light bar helping distinguish it from its turbocharged siblings.

On the Lite, the equipment list includes halogen headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Moving up to the Prime brings LED headlamps with automatic operation, larger 17-inch alloy wheels and auto-folding door mirrors. 

Colour options include Armour Silver, Marine Blue, Quartz Black, Snow White, and Space Grey. Ruby Red, which made its debut on the 4-cylinder Proton S70, remains a turbo-only colour option.

Interior

Inside, the Lite gets fabric seats, while the Prime switches to leatherette upholstery and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel. The higher variant also adds automatic air-conditioning.

Both versions feature an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Smartphone connectivity is therefore included even on the entry-level model, allowing drivers to access compatible navigation, music and messaging apps without connecting a cable.

Analogue instruments cluster remains part of the cabin layout, alongside an electronic gear selector. Remote engine start is also standard across both variants.

Powertrain

Both variants use a 1.5-litre i-GT naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 120 PS and 150 Nm. Drive goes to the front wheels through a CVT.

Now, before you write the Proton S70 Lite and Prime off because of the CVT, keep in mind that the CVT the S70 NA variants receive isn't the Punch-sourced unit; instead, it gets a Wanliyang (WLY)-sourced torque converter CVT.
