GWM Malaysia has reintroduced the Tank 500 HEV Black Edition, now equipped with Intelligent App Connectivity. Offered as part of the company’s fourth-anniversary celebrations, the hybrid SUV retains its RM 336,800 price tag, on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding Langkawi.

First introduced locally in October 2025, the Black Edition returns with the same dark exterior treatment. This time, the main addition is smartphone access to selected vehicle controls and information through the GWM app.

Owners can remotely lock and unlock the doors, close the windows and sunroof, and start or stop the engine. Remote climate control is also included, allowing the cabin to be cooled before getting into the vehicle.
The app provides tyre pressure and temperature readings, remaining driving range information and 12V battery alerts. Vehicle location functions include geofencing, location alerts and Find My Vehicle.

App connectivity is already offered on several other GWM models sold in Malaysia, including the Tank 300 HEV, Ora Good Cat Ultra, Ora Good Cat GT, Wey G9 Hi4 HEV and Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV. Available remote controls and monitoring functions vary by model.

On the outside, the returning Tank 500 HEV Black Edition features a black grille, front bumper decorative strips and darkened headlamps. The treatment extends to its 20-inch alloy wheels and electrically operated side steps.

At the rear, the black tailgate features an electric soft-close function. The overall appearance follows the Black Edition introduced last year, which also received black exterior trim, roof rails, door handles and badges.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid system, producing a combined 346 PS and 648 Nm. A nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission handles power delivery, while four-wheel drive and front and rear electronic differential locks form part of the Tank 500’s off-road hardware.
The seven-seat SUV also offers 11 driving modes, Tank Turn Assist and off-road cruise control. Its published specifications include 224 mm of ground clearance and an 800 mm wading depth.

Inside, the Tank 500’s equipment includes a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a head-up display and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.
The front seats feature ventilation and massage functions, while the second row also gets seat ventilation. Electrically folding third-row seats allow owners to expand the luggage area when all seven seats are not required.
GWM is offering the returning Tank 500 HEV Black Edition in limited units, with customers invited to view the SUV at its Malaysian showrooms.
