Three Maextro V800 luxury MPVs reportedly suffered broken brake pedal brackets during emergency braking tests in China, leaving the drivers unable to operate the foot brake normally.
Maextro has responded by announcing plans to redesign the brake pedal bracket base and offer existing owners a free upgrade. The Huawei–JAC brand also pledged to review its design validation, testing parameters and production quality management.
The failures were reported by Chinese automotive platform Dongchedi in a video released on 8 October 2026, following repeated braking runs from 100 km/h to a standstill.

According to Dongchedi, the first vehicle’s bracket failed on its third braking attempt. The second suffered the same problem on its fourth run, while a third, newly purchased vehicle failed on its second attempt.
The testers said the broken brackets prevented normal pedal operation, requiring emergency braking through the Park control.
Maextro is jointly developed by Huawei and JAC and occupies the highest position in Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, or HIMA. The V800 entered the Chinese market in August as a flagship MPV targeting the segment occupied by the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM.
The component under scrutiny is the bracket supporting the pedal assembly.
According to the test team’s assessment, the fractures occurred at the root of a bracket made from glass-fibre-reinforced polypropylene. They highlighted its single vertical support plate and a moulding weld line in the heavily loaded area as potential weaknesses.

On the third vehicle, the testers recorded a pedal force of approximately 1,612 newtons when the bracket broke. Stopping through the Park-button emergency braking function then took around 140 metres.
These are the testers’ observations. They do not establish a definitive engineering cause, and the reports did not include findings from a regulator or independent laboratory.
Maextro said it would revise the bracket base and provide a free upgrade for vehicles already delivered. Its statement did not specify an implementation date or announce a formal recall.

The company maintained that no comparable bracket failures had occurred in customer use since deliveries began. It described the tests as “non-standard, extreme test conditions” and said its braking system had been validated against requirements exceeding applicable Chinese standards.
Even so, Maextro said it wanted to provide a greater safety margin under such conditions. Owners are now awaiting details of the revised component and when the upgrade will become available.
